Re: You Want Alloys?

Woahh woahh!! Big debate on
4-1/4 inches is a long way off 108mm, its 107.95mm.
These sizes are metric equivalents of imperial sizes. This has caused me some problems over the years. For example with plumbing:-
22mm copper pipe is nowhere near the size of 3/4inch pipe. You try and get a 3/4 copper O ring to fit on a 22mm copper pipe!
Where you backwards rim tweakers still live in the dark ages. Can't legally buy an ounce of tobacco anymore but you can still get a 15" tyre.
Bet those EU bods have kittens over this
Go and buy a length of 3"x2" timber and measure it. Short changed or what!! They never over sized them after all this decimalisation scam.
Re: You Want Alloys?
Yeah but 4 and a half is 114.3.......
Guess they don't fit a Hijet whatever they are .
Think these are 108's too

Ahh ya bastard, stabbing me with my own steel rule.
Decimal maths is flawed from the outset from my messing with complex numbers. Pi is very real buy it has no decimal.
Now you've got me thinking here, dangerous yet enjoyable
........Gets on the wikipedia know its all sort of factually incorrect website thingie.
Now I've never quite bought that an inch is 25.4mm, its just too round of a number. But this makes sense...
In 1959 the "International Yard and Pound Agreement" was adopted where we all got screwed once again. Feckin politics!! Bet you pair remember this
1 Inch should be 25.4000508mm (to 7dp) the cheating French/Italian/German/Spanish bastards!!!! How many miles of yarn better off has that made them.
Re: You Want Alloys?
Got a message back off this wheel guy on ebay - they are off a triumph 2000 which makes them 114.3mm(ish)

.05 overall so .025 a side Errrrmmmmm that will be well within the build tolerance it's 0.000984251968503938" to 18dp

22mm is much closer to 7/8" then 3\4" thats about an eigthtish and they tried metric tyres some metros and Granadas had them it didn't catch on even over in euro land.
Re: You Want Alloys?
I never realised the whole metric tyre failure attempt, turns out they made some 1990's bmw's with 230/55/390
Now the only people who have any are dunlop and your looking at over £300 a tyre if you can find any.

Re: You Want Alloys?
or if you have a dreaded metro you are stuck with remolds I think they even used a different PCD so you can't swap wheels unlike the granny which you could swap back to normal ford wheels or remolds.
Re: You Want Alloys?
No way, just been looking over some metro and montego forums!
Loads of these guys are literally stuck without rubber.
There are other wheels that fit the same PCD but are really hard to find, something like pcd 4x92.5 ?!
Sounds like the tyre manufactures were trying to corner the market with silly games like latest trend for run flats and no spare wheel.

Re: You Want Alloys?
I might have them
And I'll worry about making them fit afterwards. I can see a fair bit of cutting the arches going down.
