Rich man, every corsa in town has the "proof" mark. Free with max power magazine I think.

Yo' don't diss the Hijet instability kid Laughing

I've rallied the fuck out of my old one and never came near to getting it off 4 wheels, apart from over the odd hump back bridge. I've spun it out a few times drifting it round roundabouts. But never did it feel like it was going to do a tank slapper. I did put it in a hedge backwards one night, but again it was a pretty big angled drift I was trying to pull of Laughing

I did a stage rally one night in mine, full on pain for hours. My poor co-driver Laughing I'll give him credit where it due, at no point did he try to get out or scream. And another lad in a Suzuki Ignis Sport said he couldn't keep up with me, and he's a shit hot driver. That comment still comes up in pub talk; he turned round to his co-driver and said something "how the fuck is he doing it, I can't keep up with him" co-driver said "quit driving like a bitch and get it on" driver said "its all on, every bit i've got"

What hammond did on top gear was so predictable though, don't go trying the scandinavian flick Rolling Eyes

Max prat mag don't even get within a mile of this house, the previous owner's wife was German and he used the Hijet to transport his go karts about and a couple of times a year took them over to the kart track at the ring and one of the toll tickets is still in the tax disc holder. not some fake sticker if there was it would have been removed by now the deaer sticker only survives becasue it says Zebedee on it.

That sounds like denial, bet you get a subscription to revs and slack flower every year for chrimbo...

Seriously though, since I joined here as member number 9 and you as number 28, with now 316 registered users we must be only a few years off from have the first ever official club meeting, or maybe a stand at one of the car shows. Bet it would be the most popular and memorable stand of them all. All our hijets are so different, they show the soul of the owner through and though.

Nope I can't but I do recognise the side repeaters your using as indicators, from what i'm unsure. Old transit van or something.

Not sure if its the picture, but your bonnet modification don't look square or symmetrical or something. Did you have to alter the slam panel to make it fit down too?

No not even close, it's not bolted down and it is a little squiffy at the mo still got to finish welding it and putting some bracing in as no mod to the slam panel but had to remove all the strenthening in the middle to get it down that low.

this is the second bonnet I have made the first showed me where all the weak spots were this is the one to stay, the orginal version used a mk1 escort grill with a few tweeks I did take a pic in low light so you could only make out the main features and the b reg plate on a group that was well into rwd fords and only one person got the mk3 with a early grill all the others were going on about fining a un/late reg'ed mk1

Currently that is a bloody good option Laughing

Or, don't laugh :- i've been looking at those trailer movers that rub a motor against the tyre

Or, i've been looking at how the kit car guys do it with a starter motor and a starter gear sandwiched next to the chain drive sprocket.

Also I'm thinking about maybe having just one bike engine, but turbo charging it. I've bought a few bits this week, when they come i'll post up some pictures - I know you won't approve though Wink

It's not that I won't approve, I just prefer supercharging I know that you sacrifice some power output but you can have boost throughout the range and alter it if needed by changing the gearing if its belt driven as opposed to waiting on the turbo to spool up with enough gas flowing through it.

I do like the caravan mover idea how about making a starter solenoid type thingy and driving one front wheel then the other can run the speedo I would use the drivers side for reverse if you do that just so there is a little more weight over the wheel incase it's slippery.

It's not the turbo that I thought you'd disagree on!

Beautiful thing about turbo's is they are like a feedback loop... they pump in air fuel more which makes more exhaust gases, thus makes more boost, thus pumps in more, making more gases thus making more boost, etc etc etc. Pulleys and brackets are hard to engineer exactly right, where exhaust pipe is like plumbing. Big turbos are cheap, super chargers are not. Super chargers decrease your efficiency, where a turbo actually increases it.

Anyway, hopefully the postie will bring me a box tomorrow Smile

I had this stupid plan, basically I was going to make it move forwards really frickin well, then I was going to worry about the other stuff later... after all it is MOT'd till August 1st 2012, got to get it motoring before my birthday April Fools day.

Super chargers are not cheap but they do increase efficiency as they pump more air from lower down the rev range thus spinning the motor more effectivly and there for they spin faster and more effectivly I do however admit thet you do get less back as they do require a portion of the power made and pullies and gearing are a piece of pie but if you haven't guessed I like the power band to come in at about 1100 revs and can be finished at about 3500 unless it's a screaming two stroke I like a torque moter not a high revving Hp.

Post by HighlyJetted Wed Sep 28, 2011 11:03 pm

I don't think you quite get what I mean, i'm not that great at explaining myself:-

They definitely decrease total engine efficiently as the air pump (supercharger) drains energy off the crank.

Where turbo's use the heat/pressure from the exhaust side to power the extra air fuel input potential.

A typical standard combustion engine is approximately 20% efficient.
Out of the actual energy in the fuel 80% ends up mostly as heat down the exhaust pipe and 20% moves the car forwards. Turbo engines can get around 25%.
This is why wagons etc use turbo diesel engines, not super diesels.

Eaton superchargers, one of the best, drain about 1hp per 10cfm of air its pumping, so at 300cfm of boost its draining 30hp of the forward driving energy.

While a turbo does this by only using the wasted exhaust gas energy.

Get me?

actually, there are 2 main reasons superchargers arent as popular.....

firstly, they are more expensive.....

and secondly, because they are permanently running, they always use more fuel....

a turbo engine can be driven off boost (or just on boost), and get very good economy......

as for which is better.....I like both Smile

supercharged engines are just impressive, and the sound of the charger howling is beautiful....
turbo also sound nice though........

as for how to reverse the vehicle with a motorbike engine:
http://www.quaife.co.uk/shop/products/qba2r

expensive, but its got an LSD as well.....

I'm personally thinking of getting a Mk5 transit 2.5Di, and then slapping a supercharger or a turbo onto it Smile
they are ridiculously strong engines really Smile

Yeah seen a few of the quaife products, but at that sort of cash I could just buy a polish guy to live in a box on the back and get out and push, or hell I could just buy the £800 quaife reverse box.

You want to custom boost an old derv knocker transit van? Why????!!!!!!

Maybe if you said you wanted a cosworth powered transit I could (bite my lip and) play along.

I can see no purpose, reality, reason, or even stupidity behind that wonderfully half baked fantasy.

I can't remember which car firm did it but someone designed a system which had a slide assembly in front of the charger which keeps it flowing at all engine revs and it had a electric economy switch which was soon nicknamed the wife switch and you can have the drive through a clutch and have that on a system for that boost kick but a supercharger wastes less fuel as the engine tune suits the set up where as a turbo has lag and over run hence as the little boy racers like the pop of the dump valve.

I love the turbo experience, keeping the boost rolling is a very different technique to N/A or charger setup. Its like you have another variable to keep track of, but when you get the knack of it there is so much exhilaration in the swoosh from the boost, the chatter of the over run from the blades, the cracks from the dump valve and the bark off the screamer pipe.

Did you never get sucked into all the S1/S2 cvh escort turbo madness?

No I didn't I love the easy going turbo diesels in modern HPI type engines but I like a low down torque motor as the only racing scene I have been around is drag racing I like the get off the line and go type power not the rev it and wait type.

Plan is, to cut the air box up to form a plenum chamber, with an inlet pipe fitting for the boost hose to fit onto.

These were a great buy as they come complete with all the TPS sensor, Map Sensor, Injectors, Fuel rail, air box. Bargain at £41 including postage.

Bargin Very Happy Why don't you split it in the middle then you can use the half with the filter in to keep all the internal air clean and you will have a standard type filter available to you and plenty of free flowing filters to choose from

Ahh, well when I glue the air box back together after the cut up job it'll never open up again Laughing

But its not a bad thought - I won't be binning it now, maybe use the remaining half that'll get cut off as my airbox.

Just trying to do a deal with my mate on a turbo off a Subaru Impretza STI UK Spec 280 bhp bug eyed jobbie. It was taken off to upgrade so its in good nick.

Next on the shopping list is a set of front pipes / down pipes off a YZF1000R Thunder Ace. Keep your eyes peeled at the auto jumble!

Why them? The guy with the tiger carry I was talking to had stock R1 headers which go under the motor which I belive the thunder ace also do and he reconed it needed a car style system so the motor could sit lower.

I want them to cut it up to make my turbo manifold, and mines going upwards, not down and under like that one.

My engine is going in a very different position/direction etc as mine wont be being shaft driven.

Looking at your photos's here:-

https://hijet.forumotion.com/t436-tiger-in-the-tank?highlight=tiger

Project Ernie - Page 2 100_1312

My engine will be about a foot further back, although I will loose alot of weight ditching the old axle/leaf springs/drums and hubs.

And for the drag strip i'll be sporting some very wide soft floppy rubber.

And it'll be packing twice the punch, still have the dream of the near 300bhp Hijet. Twisted Evil
