In which case what diameter are the headers? if you are cut 'n' shuting so long as they are the right diameter to fit then it don't matter what they are off.

Quite true 'dat. But it also depends on those little flange plate things with the bolt holes. My thoughts were at least it will definitely be right. I don't do gambling, unless its worth it big time.

And to answer your question... I don't know, but I can measure the ones on my dads Thunderace.

so long as the inside diameter is correct and the depth of the end plate is deep enough then plates can be made to suit and if you are welding the pipes together in a collector then you need the circlips to be correct and fit the plates, alternatively if you make bolt in adaptors to go on the exhaust ports you could then use slide on pipes with retaining springs.

This is in the foyer of our shop it is a 1260cc v-twin built in the late 60's has a 1500cc shorrot supercharger and was the first bike to exceed 200mph on British soil and Alf Hagon turned 80 the other day and he would still do a few starts on it if the chance came up.

That's a beauty Rich, I'm loving the valve setup and the pre carbed super charger, and that back tire sure ain't designed for corners.

That's a golden era of engineering right there, takes a brave man to run the strip on that.

That ain't no carb!! Exclamation Exclamation !! that is a fuel injector/regulator there is no venturi, fuel tank is in the nose cone fairing above and in front of the yokes so it's turn on open and go the charger does the atomisation.

what you see is the mark two version the first one wasn't even clutch launched the big upright tube under the seat housed a sprung loaded post the back of the bike was lifted and the pole pulled out and set, Alf then revved it all the way up spinning the back wheel and then to launch pulled a clutch like lever on the bars and the pole retracted dropping the tyre to the strip affraid affraid

Scary non clutch setup!!!!!! Chocks away old boy...
Rather him than me for sure. Brave or stupid.... ahhh well he's a grass tracker so we know which it will be Laughing

My uncle has recently retired form a lifetime career in speedway, if you know the sport you may know of Paul Thorp, if not google him. Although I think Hull have asked him to go back next season so I've heard from my dad.

So it just dribbles fuel in? Compressing air fuel mixture into the intake system, waiting for a little unwanted flame back past the inlet valve and the whole thing goes kaboom Laughing scary!!! But ace!!! Pioneers of performance, I take my cap off to Alf and his team, welding up frames in their workshop and hanging on for dear life. Bet they never would have thought you could one day buy a road bike that are close to the 200mph barrier.

well they did invent the alloy monocoque chassis

Project Ernie - Page 3 Mark_h10

the tank is welded onto the chassis to save weight the bottom of the tank is the chassis.

Sorry no doors up for grabs, I sort of need mine Laughing

Ernie is at a stand still, I have lots of work on, so I've got to earn money while I can. And every year come January/February it all goes dead quiet, so I'll probably be working with freezing fingers in wind, snow and hail.

I have been buying bits and pieces, like an ECU, a dizzy, the earlier photo'd ITB's, pillow bearings, and collecting a turbo next week.

You average new 'sporty shopping cart' (i've got a badge) buyer of today doesn't like turbo performance, they come out with stuff like....

"when you put your foot down there's no power" Laughing

"I was going round the roundabout and the turbo kicked in and I crashed" Rolling Eyes

"Turbo's have lag" - no shit Sherlock

I say learn to drive a turbo machine - good things come to those who wait, and anyway you should be ready and prepared.

Bo****ks they just need to learn to drive modern carswith stock turbos don't have a kick well not your joe average shopping cart anyway I was a delivery driver for a peugeot garage for a year and when the turbo diesel vans were being serviced we drove the estate demonstrator/loan cars neither of which had any sort of kick and I tried to get the cars to light up on boost but there was so little I soon got bored at that game same as getting a verbal warning for donuting the wifes mk2 escort in the public car park in the snow.

"I was going round the roundabout and the turbo kicked in and I crashed" - I actually heard this in a conversation a little while back, and when I mocked his piss weak poor excuse for it not being his own fault he got proper aggressive.

A friend of a friend claims he crashed his Integra type R on a straight bit of road because.... (are your ready for this one?)

......The vtec kicked in unexpectedly and the back end came out.

(the vtec kicks in at the exact same rpm point everytime, and its a front wheel drive)

And but, and but.... Rich, people don't want to learn nowadays, they already know everything, and they have no patients for things like turbo lag or thinking ahead. Or having to go to a shop to buy a porno mag.

thats why I'm happy stuck in the 80's and I would like a driving licence from finland they have the right idea about driving not the money grabbing goverment crap we get here they have to drive for years before you get your pass and you have to do skid pan training and sh*t loads more thats why there racing drivers are always know as the flying finns.

Would like to see some of these nancy pants drive that turbo metro type n car that definatly had a kick.

by the way if you need a laugh go to www.barryboys.co.uk and check out the gold and SOTW

Hj I was thinking why don't you see if you can find or make something like this doesn't give you the rear seats but you could use a old luton body and get the storage and just leave it behind when you go racing or use it as a camper at the racing.

If you had brakes on it you could pull up at the start line and burn out then release it when in position by remote and launch leaving it behind bounce

Did a couple of hours on Ernie on sunday but that's the first time i've touched it in weeks (months?).

This time of year as always I'm running around like a headless chicken getting all the jobs done that I've promised "done for christmas". I keep my promises too.

Nearly there, only a few more jobs to go then I'll be quiet as hell january and febuary. I'll have a little cash in my pocket too.

Thinking of just using one engine at the moment and a turbo, and some trick engine management system.

Done nothing fun recently!

A friend has started dealing cars so he keeps bringing me problems - this weekend was an Alto which needed a new gearbox. Weekend before was a corsa which needed a new hydrolic tappet. The cash is nice though.

On top of that just before christmas I knocked a few walls out of my house to make a new nice big living room. Still haven't finnished the job but it has to be done before I go skiing in march.

I was having a bit of a motivation crisis with ernie - now its just time and money!!

I've got a new grill for it, in the right colour too.
