new hijet owner
Hey all, brought a hijet panel van the end of last month so though I'd join up as seems like a good bunch on here.
Got the van cheap 'with head gasket issues' which turned out to be two leaking pipes which was causing it to start pressurising
In the process of converting it to a camper i will post up pics as soon as I work out how, but for now hello all

Re: new hijet owner
Hello CPK. What have you bought yourself? A 993cc or a 1300? Well done for getting it sorted out. I have bought a couple of Hi-Jets that 3 garages told the customers it was head gasket and in both cases was leaking Radiator Caps.
Mastering the Dark Art of Posting Pictures is another subject altogether. Best of luck. If you are a young'un you should be able to sort it out pretty quickly. Only took me three and a half years. Now there's no stopping me.

Re: new hijet owner
I was lucky with mine really head gasket wise but i got the van on the risk of that so i was expecting to have to do it. Nice to see someone else with the derv lump haha. Progress will be slow over the next couple of weeks but i hope to get a few small jobs done on her. want it done for end of April really well usable anyway.

Re: new hijet owner
I don't know about that they are weird things 4 separate pump/injectors things
And a very odd way to set them up ,bloody Italians I had a single cylinder lombo engine in a geni once brand new 6 months it lasted before it rattled itself to bits

Re: new hijet owner
Just a little update..was on the hunt for a cooker that was small enough to fit in the unit but still have two rings and a grill. Couldn't really find anything at a good price that i liked the look of! so I ended up buying a folding camping cooker drilled the rivets out and made a box/frame for it to sit in. Still needs lining and fitting in the unit but its progress nontheless!

Fantastic progress CPK. You don't hang around do you. As you might gather I loathe the Diesel Hi-Jets. 34 bhp isn't exactly inspiring for performance and worse on fuel consumption than the 1300 version.
But when you look at the design of the Lombardini lump it is a very clever, tidy looking engine, with OHC and everything hidden away under the Cam Cover.
Keep the pictures coming. Have you had a look at Raggy's project Skylark? Absolutely amazing job and featured in Campervan last April.

I remain unconvinced of the benefits of combining an injection pump with an injector though, but there you go who uses injection pumps these days ? they run happily off kerro , peanut oil ,butter tizer and love juice
I wouldn't fancy the chances of my common rail vans running on dat shit

Re: new hijet owner
Little update on the hijet aka Nigella. Got the cooker into the kitchen unit, it will have to come out again to get it lined but wanted to cut it to size and make sure it was going to fit okay. I then made a start on making some draws to underneath the cooker, just making them out of ply. Not much nor the best but its progress!

Re: new hijet owner
just remember that the seats lift backwards so you can get to the water, windscreen wash and check oil,so make sure that cooker unit can be moved. It is possible to forget this vital point...cough...cough! However I now know I can check the oil from the passenger side (saves taking drivers seat out each time) and the seat storage behind passenger seat is movable after unlocking some quick lease clips so all well in the end.

Oh i haven't forgotten thankfully haha. The unit isnt fixed in place, i will be putting it on some sort of runners so it slides backwards and forwards. not fully worked out exactly how im going to do it yet but il sort it
