This is for the newbies to introduce them selves...

i'll start.
i own a 993 Hijet and decided to open/start the forum after finding a big lack of info/advice on the net. the one (and only?) forum for the Hijet is good when you get replies... if you get a reply!
lack of manuals is the other gripe i have.
if ANYONE has a manual esp in digital format. please email it to me and i will link it up to the workshop section with the others i have already there.

I am the original NOVICE!

Got my van last Tuesday (it is a 660cc Hijet vw camper lookalike).

I went for this one rather than the Subaru ones, due to price of parts etc.

Any help or advice would be great!

The work I need to do is mainly cosmetic, however i would like to do an engine transplant at a later date.

I was wondering what engine size could I realistically shoehorn in the van, without major alteration?

I just want something that won't be under too much stretch if I need to do some motorway miles.

Where did you get it insured, and how much ?? I got mine for the Hi-Jet off the internet, through a broker called Dial Direct. As you say, a second vehicle so no no-claims discount. It cost me about £200 for third party, fire and theft. Cheaper if you put your wife on the policy as well --- what's all that about ??

Mine was double that!!!

I went fully comp though!!!

They wouldn't even consider me for private use, so I am using it for business use!!!

It has been a great advert already, different than the box standard rep mobile.

Just glad I am insured to be honest, the company (I am a sole trader) is going to pick up the tab anyway.

I will look at your broker next time I renew though.

Just logging in to say many, many thanks to Pagan L. for posting a link on a message I left on the Daihatsu Drivers UK site regarding my Hijet - It led me straight here (lol), which in turn has sorted out a (another) problem that arose yesterday, when my wife decided to be over enthusiastic 'trying' opening one of the side doors; suffice to say it won't open from the outside now ..............

A quick search of this site revealed some useful pictures and comments/advice........ I can so go with 'bean can build mentality' & 'welding fresh air'

The weather down here in EXeter is a bit crap at the moment - not as bad as up North they say, but still cold enough to preclude me going out and fiddlin' anyway. So, when it gets warmer, it will be door cards off - I'm going to recover them anyway, probably with urban cam pattern canvas because its blooming hard waring and will match the planned eventual paint job - and I will then set to trying to fix the door release mechanisum(s).

So until the next time folks......................

I have just joined as I found the link on the Owners club site

I bought a 1998 EFI 1300 last October and I love her! I learnt on the first outing to hold on tight over speed humps as I nearly knocked myself out on the windscreen I am a complete novice and this site is great!

im having starting problems. like i have had my 993 hi jet for 4 months now changed the ecu, the coil, and coil assy, still no spark. am i missing something. is there a fuse or something that can stop your spark.

Got a few questions, firstly the interior of you truck looks sweet, beats my old rickety cockpit!!! wot steering wheel is that, looks like a mono??? where did you get the height boss from, or was it made espesh? Also the first few pics show wheel spacers, they look like their made from ally??? and i take it they are so you can fit the larger wheels on with a different pcd, as I'm looking to make a set myself for my van (hopefully first set done in a few weeks once sourced a second hand set of alloys i like) if any one else is interested over hear in blighty, once i've got them done and tested I might be able to put into production, lot easier and cheaper than getting ally's specially made.

I hope it is ok to post a link to another hijet forum from North America...unfortunately a lot of the engine stuff on that forum is centered around the 660 cc models and not the larger petrol and diesels available in Europe,but things like interior and bodywork,suspension are mostly the same...so here is the write up I did for the homemade steering adapter..If this post isn't kosher on the forum let me know,and appologies in advance..

Yes the spacers are aluminum alloy billet and weight 1.5 lbs each.. and allow 4x100 pcd rims to fit..since they are also 15mm spacers a fwd offset rim will work with no interference with the strut..

Hi Daisyblue, nice lookin' camper you have there , they seem to command good money on the likes of ebay, and this would be the time of year to sell - just before the new season starts, shame to part company with it unless you really have too? I spotted a similar veh recently, again on ebay, being sold as non-runner (from the description the only thing it sounded like it needed was a new battery) it still went for a lot of dosh, which was a shame as I'm looking to convert my MPV into a camper - of sorts - for when I attend various bikes shows etc. I really like the 'pop top' allowing you to stand up in the back.

I've used her as a camper all year round, admittedly a bit cold until I put the heating on (gas cooker) with the hood down...... bit of a sqweeze 2up unless I have the awnings up.

Hi all, recently bought my Hi Jet to convert to a micro camper, part way through the building process at the moment hope to have it finished before May (just in time for the gloriouse summer we're going to get lol). I'm trying to keep enough room to transport my bikes (pedal variety) as well as a double bed, cooker and sink, bikes will live in the awning when the beds down. I'm still finding out all the querky details with the Hi Jet (I've already removed the dash panel to fit a cd player "doh") and this forum is a great way of finding out what problems and cures I may encounter.
