hello matt , and a happy motoring welcome, one thing for sure all hijet drivers are very far from standard, most of us have beyond "normal" attitudes to life,,,, ha ha ha, the words "overheating" and " will these alloys fit? " are but a few common words within our jet speak,,,,, happy motoring bones..... Smile

Hi and welcome on board I know where another 1.2 diesel is and as far as I know it's not moving soon the garage I use for MOT's seems to be attracting Hijets and are having probs with the derv one as they had the head off for skimming and now it won't start, they think the skimmers took apart some of the links in the head and didn't put it back right so if you have to do yours have a good check where things go just in case.

Yep normal is for boring people!!

Any others around the Swindon/Cirencester area? Be nice to meet up for a beer/brew and have good chinwag about these odd but cute little vans!

I'm more likely to see if I can get a set of 7.50 mud tyres to fit rather then some alloys! Got plenty of them in garage from Landy!

Cheers

Helllo , i didley know how i got here , i think the wind just blew me here ! , but from what ive seen this seems to have all the answers i need ( other forum's just don't seem to respond) . I have a hijet van 998cc petrol , headgasket blew and someone i know took the head off , then he decided that he could no longer carry on , so im left with a bootful of parts , and a headful of memories from when i did the headgasket on my vectra years ago .cos i can't find a manual for this van . Anyway i would just like to say thankyou for opening this forum . And im going for a look to find the info , and im sure if i cant find it ,there will be an answer from someone for my question . stay happy . PAUL.

Hi Jake / toxicinx. What's the story behind toxicinx title? Would like to see pic of your van. I've had mine 3 1/2 months now and love it to pieces. Can't help you with anything mechanical but I have just made really nice window covers and I've done a bit of upholstery before so might be able to help out there. Welcome! flower

Post by Andreas Vasilis Mon Apr 23, 2012 8:17 am

Hi,

I am new to the Micro Van Owners Club, I live in Cyprus where I own a 1994 Piagio Porter panel van which I use for work & leasure as seen in the avater, but I also own a 1996 Daihatsu Hijet 6 seater MPV which I have in my garage in London for whenever I come over to visit the family & friends.

I am a great fan of these little vans & am glad to see that there are also other people that feel the same way as I do.

I have looked around to buy a new one but havent had any luck, I know that the Hijet's have been out of production for a few years now but I did think the Porter's were still being made, perhaps someone can point me in the right direction or perhaps knows someone who has an almost new one they want to sell.

Keep going,

Andy.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the welcome, if you do come up with a Porter dealer let me know.

I'm not in hurry for one just yet as the wife will probably leave me if she sees another one of these little vans about, but it would be good to know if you can still get a new one & from where.

Keep going,

Andy.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the information, it will come in usefull one day when I decide to upgrade & go for a new one.

I am in Cyprus at the moment, a sunny 23 degrees today which isn't bad for this time of year, its funny though how you actually miss the cloudy English weather when you live in a hot country like Cyprus.

Have a good weekend & keep driving,

Andy.

Post by jbenny2 Fri May 04, 2012 4:11 pm

Hi all,

Newbie here,
First encountered these little vans about 3 years ago when i meet my wife (then girlfriend), who had an 03 plate 1.3efi hijet panel van.
I have to admit i was a little put off at first but soon realised just how good these little vans are, but after a very expensive mot we dicided to get a newer van a found a brand new piaggio porter 1.3 efi 6 seater MPV with twin sunroofs and 4x4 which is great for getting in and out of odd places.
so far we've been to Jersey, yorkshire, lake district, wales and last summer toured the north of scotland and the outer hebridies for 3 weeks traveled 1800 miles in total in 3 weeks.

I've done a few mods to the van including fitting a dab radio and rear speakers, rear 12v cigar plug, HID front fog lights, roof rack, larger front wipers, and have just brought a set of original hijet 13" alloys (in need of a little tlc before i fit them).

I've also got a 1972 mk1 escort which i restoring so if anyones got any technical quires i'll do by best to help out as i've got a lot of contacts on the car world.

Also interested in meeting up with other micro van nutters, to exchange ideas and discuss issues, it's also an excuse to go to the pub with the misses

At least i now know i'm not the only crazy one out there Razz

hi, welcome James! Sounds like true love right there, the vans and the missus.

Member wise we seem to be spread across the whole uk, but i'm hoping we could do a camping weekend in the lake district in the future. The first meet up of its kind.
Hope you stick around =)

Got a new front panel for it as the previous owner lost the original one Sad

Had a few wee drama's with it, so will post up a few posts.

If anyone's at Santa Pod this weekend we'll be there, come and say hello Smile
