Re: Introduce your self...
Haha bit cheeky is it? I've already been shown up there by a street sleeper (Fiat 126 running loads of power)
I prefer track to drag, just off up to try out this MR2 on the strip before I get a few bits sorted and mapped etc
What MR2 did you have Logi?
Here's one of the inside rear
Fancy getting some new wheels for it, and maybe some arches (Mini ones fit?) to bling it up a little and that's it

Had a couple, this one
And just sold this
Do a search on wheels, there's not a lot of choice

Re: Introduce your self...
Nice this is my second Mk2
I've been looking since I've had the van, read a lot of different stories as to what fits, glad I found this place as it seems a very knowledgeable active place to be

Yeah right Welcome!
I'd love to catch up down the pod, although unfortunately I'm at a stag do this weekend. I'd love to run a standard hijet down the strip.
Re: Introduce your self...
Haha! I'm trying to get the missus to put the Jet on the strip next to the MR2 but she's scared to! Might get one of the boys to drive it..?

Re: Introduce your self...
Can't you be seen to drag race a hijet There has to be some hijet drag racing on.
Now how about making the hijet quicker than the mr2 down the strip

Re: Introduce your self...
Haha that would be a challenge, maybe a project for a couple of year time when I've finished the MR2

Welcome along I think you may have the only 850cc on here (I'm bound to be wrong on that fact) but the more the merrier.

Hi all
I've just brought a 51 plate hijet van and love it!
Only paid £375 with 11 month MOT and 5 months tax! Drives fantastic!
Needs a bloody good clean and polish though.

Re: Introduce your self...
Not exactly new, but I never really introduced myself. Bought mine for £725, the owner wanted £1000 for it. Been resprayed black on the outside, and painted white inside, but still has red in places from its previous colour, along with green hinges, door lock knobs and, until I resprayed them, green wheel trims... It's a P reg 993cc, and for its age, it's not doing too badly, does need some tlc performed on the engine though.

Re: Introduce your self...
Hello everyone. I am Mikee from Cornwall and I just bought a 1996 Hijet. It is literally the best thing ever! I have loads of questions which I will post in due course! Cheers
New Camper owner
Hi all,
I'm the proud owner of a t-reg 993cc hijet camper. Needs a bit of work but recently was given it by my dad. It's driven all over europe, as far as scilliy and finland so it's been around though it needs a bit of tlc now.
I fell in love with these little vans back in 02 when i was looking for my first car in this country. My only stipulation was that i must be able to keep my kayak inside. The only thing the garage had that was close was a 993 hijet mpv. It worked a treat and to sweeten the deal they threw in a thule roofrack so actually most of the time i kept the boat on top. I was an outdoor pursuits instructor then so i slep in it with the seats out, got changed under the back door and basically lived in it on road trips and paddling jaunts.
Will post pics if I figure how this works!!!

Re: Introduce your self...
Hi Everyone, Its great to be here,
I am currently looking to purchase one of these fabulous little vans as a third car in the family to use for Fishing, as I think it will be the perfect little workhorse.
I have my eye on a few vans at present but I am looking to buy in the next few weeks if possible.
I am in Poole - Dorset, so am open to any offers that anyone hears or knows of.
Also I would really appreciate your thoughts on what things to look out for when checking a potential purchase over, ie the bad bits to look for.
Looking forward to being a proud owner very soon
Craig

Welcome to the madhouse, Gaz & Craig. Hope to see your pics soon Gaz.
Yes, overheating is probably the biggest mechanical thing to look for but we have an expert on here whos posts will help if it happens to you. Take it for a good run then make sure there's no water loss underneath or bubbling back into the expansion tank. As Logi says, give it a good twice over for tin worm.
Some people on here have also found a problem with the load area being taken up by a motor bike, but it's never happened to me! Good hunting.

Finally joining in!
Hi to all the jetters out there!
I just wanted to post a quick hello on here as I have been a hijet fan for ages! I registered on this site a few years ago and never got around to posting anything!
I bought a disabled converted 98s hijet mpv 7 years ago with 14000 miles on the clock (I couldnt believe it) and have been hooked ever since. I think I have cost Daihastu more in recalls than I have ever spent on parts! In recent years I have been tinkering away on the van trying to fix a few things that I always wanted the van to have.
She has had a full respray in a non-original red and is sitting on 17" black alloys. She drives fine on them but some minor rubbing does occur so a few changes need to be done.
I hope to make a few mods to the 1.3 engine internally. I am curious about why the charade and terios 1.3 HCE engines have different power outputs and also I noted a post about hybriding with a 1.6 engine?
Looking forward to chatting to fellow hijet owners.
regards,
Steve
