Heater fan / switch

Does anyone know whether the heater fan or switch are repairable?

My problem is that the fan does not work on the lowest setting but does on the higher ones. Unfortunately, the second setting was far too hot so I need to fix the lower one. Any ideas?

? Can't you just turn the heat setting down a bit ?

I have the same problem on one of my vans, Bush. I guess there's a rheostat (variable resistor) somewhere that has partially failed, but I don't know where it is on the Hijet. I've a vague recollection that on 1970's and 80s BMC/Leyland cars it was on the outside of the blower housing, but it doesn't bother me that much so I've not looked for it yet.

the heater fan switch has 4 settings doesnt it?

first (far left) - fan off, vents shut
second - fan off, vents open
third - fan on low
fourth (far right) - fan on high




unless I'm not remembering correctly and there are 5 settings, thats how mine always worked.....

I remember mine stayed on the 2nd setting with the heater temp set to hot.

then if the temp gauge went a little high, I flicked the heater fan to maximum

The fan switch on mine has 4 positions - Off, low, medium and high. The directional flaps are moved by the air outlet control (feet, face, screen etc). One is electric, the other operates a cable.

We had the same problem on our Transit, the heater would only work on the highest setting.
It was the heater resistor in the heater ducting.
A pain in the arse to find, but should be easier on a Hijet, as there is less dash covering the ducting.

I used to run mine with the heat directed to feet and face.

I presume then, that my fan only worked on the medium and high settings, as it certainly didnt on the 'low' setting.......

i cant hear sod all on 1-2 settings, can on higher ones.
the low heats take ages before you feel anything anyway...
