Window mechanisms
Does anyone know if the window mechanisms in a 2003 pickup are the same as the van/mpv mechanisms?

Re: Window mechanisms
OK cheer mate, ive got to investigate it a bit further first as i don't know for sure that this is the problem but my window drops at an angle when i try to open it. How much would a drivers side one be?

Re: Window mechanisms
It will be the mech they always wear and break you may also need the guide rail or two.
the bracket broke and the rear guide fell away in ours due to rot and then the mech gave out after a while.

Re: Window mechanisms
Those plastic things where the mech bolts to the glass can break off or just plain break too.
Re: Window mechanisms
Thanks for the pointers guys, hopefully i will get chance to have a look at it in the morning before work

Re: Window mechanisms
The metal rail is made of cheese, mine was the same, the rail had split, depending on your skill it can be welded but it's tricky.

Re: Window mechanisms
I have runners on the shelf too.... they are asked for quite often, especially the one closest the lock as they always rot.
Re: Window mechanisms
There are two different window winder mechanisms one with a coarse spline for the winder handle and the two bolts that secure it to the metal rail on the bottom of the glass are spaced 11" apart whereas the fine splined ones which are much more common are spaced 16" apart and don't have the metal rail -- they have as HJ said two plastic brackets and are bonded to the bottom of the glass.
The winder handles are different because of the spline spacing and the window glass is also different because of the different fixings on the glass
and not interchangeable between the two types .
The actual mechanisms though are the same size and bolt pattern and the Pickup, Van and MPV all have the same door and therefore the mechanism
will fit any door but you can't mix and match the bits.
Yours being a 2003 will almost certainly have the fine spline and the 16" bolt spacing with the plastic lugs bonded on and not the metal rail.

Re: Window mechanisms
I've never seen the other type yet woody.
Everything I have is later than 1998 and 1.3

Re: Window mechanisms
I will email you some pictures tomorrow night Matt. I have got N reg ones with fine spline and 2005 with fine spline but I have got a couple of sets with coarse spline. Bolt patterns are identical except for the window fixing.
I will take pictures of them side by side so you can see the difference.

Re: Window mechanisms
If Daihatsu are anything like Ford or particularly BL then if one supplier was out of stock then they would get them from another supplier and ultimately the items differed slightly and weren't interchangeable.
Just wondering if that is what has happened here as I have dozens of the fine spline ones but only two sets of coarse.?
And BMW and Renault and Citroen all do the same thing with their parts too come to think of it.

Re: Window mechanisms
Build 'em out of whatever they have knocking about seems to be the tried and tested way!
Re: Window mechanisms
Thanks for the info Woody, I've looked at mine today and you are right, its the type with the bonded lugs.
