I had one, to bad it dropped a while ago. Even before I could mound it... Now the thick layer of clear coat is broken :S

But I will do the interior later this year. First I want to drive it before the good weather is gone!

Yes, no clear coat. But in real life the paint job isn't that great. But it is good enough for an amateur. If I give this a 2000 euro paint job than the care is going to cost twice as much.. just not worth it.
And also the metal work is so thin so easy to get dents. If I make it shine you will see every flaw even more.

Now a quick update again...
I've continued with the car in my holiday, but as good as it was going before, it seemed like we needed to to every job twice the days after my last post. But even with all the struggling we had some progress every day. I've tried to finish it last week because I have MOT tomorrow and was going to a festival in Belgium last Thursday. But I didn't manage...
So we decided to do the necessary things for the MOT and finish it later.

Today I've came back from Belgium and when I visited my day the car looked almost finished! He mounted the door panels and he painted the corners on the front and the rims! Now that a good home coming

I'm exhausted from partying for 4 days, so just like last time I will just spam you with some pictures (only not with the latest progress) and let them do the talking

You should give yourself a pat on the back for that, looks amazing and well worth all the effort!

i realy like the front look with the grill/headlights an the front bumper.
were is the lip from on the bumper?
what colour are the custom headlightsurroundings going to be?

i woul like to go to japanclassicsunday to but its a bitt of a problem because its so far away.
my carry does 80-90 on its topspeed so i realy dont want to drive it on the highway

are you also going Lex_Michdebus?

With two cars probably; my 1975 Datsun 120Y and my 1977 Datsun 100A (if I can get the APK fixed). I think a Suzuki Carry is welcome, there was only one 4x4 Subaru kei-van last year.

And what are you complaining about! The trip is the destination... Driving your car is fun!

I was planning to go to a music festival that weekend. But the Japan Classic Sunday sounds really tempting!
The car would be more ore less finished by then for sure. Only small details that needed to be done. No high priority things.

Scotia, if you are going we can drive together! We skip the highway and make a touristic tour over there!

A small update about the project:

Yesterday I had MOT and there were no problems found! The disadvantage was that the RDW (I think it is called CBR in England) came to check as well. So I couldn't take it with me.
When I came back to pick it up I brought my freshly painted rims with me and ordered some new rubber. I don't want to take the risk to run a flat tire with the 10 year old rubber. Now that the rest of the care is in mint condition I decided to spent a view more bucks. Tomorrow I can pick up the the wheels and than I will finish the job

I will continue this evening with the small jobs and replace the oil and oil filter.

Will show you guys more pictures of the result soon!

I will also ask a fiend, then he can take my Nissan Cherry from 1985.
Fist I need to cancel the appointment for the festival though

Yes I had a 'steekproef' but that is a guy officially working for the RDW if in correct...

yes i know but a steekproef is kind of normal.
i thought somebody special came because you changed the lights etc

No nothing special, but I didn't know the word for 'steekproef' so that was just my way of describing it

It needs the two year APK for sales purposes. I want to sell it, I don't have enough room for all my cars unfortunately.

And it's unsafe to drive a car that has no APK; you're not insured when something goes wrong. But the hole was welded today and the brakes are fixed tomorrow. Fingers crossed it will pass later this week!

Forgot to tell you about the lip of the bumper... I had to cut off some of the bumper at the top to make it fit. Then wen I've put in on the car I noticed the radiator was sticking out at the bottom. So I had the part laying around that I've cot off and fixed it at the bottom. A little repair because I didn't knew before that I would put it back

Wheel dilemma !!
One day after MOT I've got the new rubber on the rims. It looked all good but after mounting I've noticed something was just not right... The green rims just gave a shitty finish to the car :S

So a lot of thinking about what would be the ideal color. For now I've mounted the wheels from my white Van. That looks a lot better. So next week I will paint only the outside of the rims white or I will create a white wall on the tire. What do you guys think is better. I will post 3 pictures. One with the original green, one with the white rims in front of it and one edited with my bad ass 'paint' skills

you should use a colour thats already on the van to make it more whole/one

I'm with Scotia on his wheels, but definately needs the chrome to lift them, otherwise the white works well (or maybe light grey as it initially looked like on my screen).

Thanks for the reply's guys! And nice idea about the chrome wheelrings. I haven't decided what it will be. First I want to solve some small issues and I'm going to change the gearbox and carburetor from my Nissan Cherry this week. I want to take that one to the Japan Classic Sunday as well.

This weekend I gave the pickup a good test drive. I drove it all the way to 'Zuid-Limburg' for a bbq and on the way back I visited my uncle that lives somewhere in 'Noord-Holland'. So I had a testdrive of 500/600km's!
I discovered that the heater stay's warm. I had the same problem with my Van when I bought it. Just a matter of fixing the outer part of the cable that controls it. That probably slips.
Also I need to do something about the cabinets that we've created. I don't have any sealing between the doors and the cabinet itself, so water can go in there. Now the wooden doors started to swell up a bit at a seam. I hope it becomes better when it dries then I will close up the seam. Otherwise I will fix it and repaint the doors on the inside. And a last thing that I need to do is look for a hole that I've forgot to close. Can be a small drilling hole or some of that kind. At least I can hear some air whistling when I'm doing 110kmh.

Also need to clean the car for upcoming Saturday! Hope we will have good weather

Wow, cool project. I like the colour and the nice cabinets on the side.
I also recommend the black rims. For the sealing between the doors, I've use draft excluder (? tochtband). Works very well. Even at the car wash with a high pressure washer.
