HEAD GASKET CHANGE

HI ALL
I have had my 993 van now for about 5 months and have/am very pleased
with it,the time has come to change the dreaded head gasket,done all the
bleeding caps etc.but now it is I think hydraulicing (water in a cylinder)
on startup,my question is is it possible to remove the head by just pulling
the manifolds to the side?,this would save diconecting a lot of bits.
The van is used as my mobile radio shack,and does everything I need
of it including overnight stops

Dunno about the first bit, but if it's hydraulicing there's a good chance it'll bend a conrod. I take it it's not running at all?

Its running fine,but on turning the key 1st/2nd compression the starter
stops,then she starts bit of white smoke then she will be fine for about
a week,dont use it every day and it seems to do it after being stood,
it did it 2/3 months ago,so I retighten the head and that cured it,and stopped the system keeping presure overnight.so this makes me think
HEAD GASKET!!

Hi yes you can just you need to disconnect a few bits but once you have the centre panel out from between the seats and you have all the manifold bolts undone then put a rachet strap around the manifold and hook the other end into the inner gutter above the drivers seat then you can raise it up slowly until it clears or you have to take something else off.

Are you going to get the head pressure tested etc?

yes and skimmed,Ill do do a proper job,valve regrind,seals etc then
hopefully it only gets done once!,its worth doing no rust,1 advisory
on last years test rusty fuel tank,and I have another one ready to fit.
my next query is I see firms on e-bay selling gaskets timing belts
or is there a better supplier?sorry for all the daft questions,but I have
driven/ridden most things in my 54 years on the road my first HIJET and
I love it.
