Rear wiper fault
Hi,
For the last week or so the rear wiper on my 1996 EFI has been doing one sweep of the rear window, before heading south, off the window to rest somewhere on the metal of the rear door, refusing to return without human assistance. Has anyone else experienced this problem? New wiper motor perhaps? Or is there something more simple?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Rear wiper fault
Possibly the little splines on the shaft have rounded off. Take the arm off and inspect the male and female splines.
If they are knackard, you can drill a hole through it and make a pin to hold it - or if your feeling serious make a woodruff key setup.

Re: Rear wiper fault
It will probably be broken wires where the loom passes from the body to the tailgate through the rubber grommet.
That's what it was when ours stopped working.
Just find the break in the wire & make good, it's a bit fiddly.

Re: Rear wiper fault
Rear wiper is not part of the mot same as reversing light like I said mine has never worked since we have had it and two testers and three MOTs not even a mention.
Re: Rear wiper fault
I never knew that, just been and checked it in the mot testers manual and it has no reference to the the rear wiper.
Although I have seen them test it a few times

rear wiper mot
I believe that if the arm is fitted, the rubber must be in sevicable condition.
Take the arm off, mot solved.

if you read the manual, I think it may be open to interpretation

Re: Rear wiper fault
No need to interpret anything, the operative word in the link is " windscrren " nowt about rear window.

Re: Rear wiper fault
I guess that is how you interpret windscreen... maybe the rear window could be seen as the rear windscreen!!
I've had a failure before on the rear wiper
The more I read it I bet you could contest it if you did get a fail, and win
