Piaggio porter crankshaft woes Empty Piaggio porter crankshaft woes

Hello! I'm new to porter/hijet vans and I'm already regretting it! I bought a 2008 piaggio van, advertised as needing engine work. On inspection, my mechanic has stripped the bottom end and says that a crankshaft bearing has had it Shocked. Do I get the crank reground and hope that I can find over sized bearings or do I find a new crankshaft? (I was told that over sized bearings are not available). If I go for a new crankshaft, would any year crankshaft fit or are they specific to the 2008 model? Seems they are made of cheese, as it's only done 47000 miles. Any suggestions from you knowledgeable bunch would be much appreciated!!

My '08 Porter is approaching 98k miles, I think your failure is more indicative of a previous lack of maintenance. Have you spoken to any engine re-furbishers about the shells? They may know of sources for oversize ones. I think the 1.3 engine was basically the same throughout the production run, so the cranks are likely to be the same. I don't know for certain, though.

I haven't spoken to anyone yet, it's a work in progress. Would you recommend anyone that specialises in these engines? It seems the parts are scarce and expensive and I don't want to end up with a money pit and a van I can't use.

I'm going to get the crank reground now so am looking for a Conrod, preferably new if anyone knows who has one?

Don't know if anyone ever did specialise in these engines tbh. As for conrod, might be worth trying some daihatsu dealers, like womoco, on the off chance they still have one knocking around.
