It really depends how you drive them.

Above 65/70mph on the motorway and they drink fuel.

Fully loaded up and down hills they also use alot more.

But on the whole I think I get about 40mpg out of mine and it gets thrashed quite alot.

Yep, they are small, but still a small loaf isn't that aerodynamic Wink
I reckon i usually get similar, driving easy doesn't seem to improve it much but kicking it's arse really goes through it.

Monday I done 123 miles up and down the Valleys in South Wales a lot of hills.....
Fuel cost £22.18 = 31.9mpg =.18p per mile.

Tuesday I done 105 miles mainly flat 'A' roads.....
Fuel cost £18.21 = 32.2mpg =.17p per mile.

Wednesday I done 139 miles mainly Motorways (at 50mph) and 'A' roads......
Fuel cost £21.79 = 36.7mpg = .15p per mile.

And that's me finished work for the week.....HaHa   tongue   Very Happy   cheers bounce  drunken  lol! .

thats usefull thanks , only calculated petrol usage once so far and it worked out at 27mpg. I have an lpg tank and when I get it checked out i will use that and see if that is more economical

I currently get 150 ish miles out of a tank motorway 60mph, tank full to fuel light starts to flash on.
I did get 160-170 miles up till last October doing the same trip, so not sure what's changed for me to loose tank range.
Mate thinks it's just winter/surface water/wind resistance....

In winter you should get better fuel economy as the air temperature is lower.

This is true with denser air adding humidity helps lower air temperature but excessive moisture ruins the flame spread which has the same effect as being out of lambda.

But as you will know air holds less water the colder it gets.

mpg piaggio porter Relative_Humidity

On a cold night my flat out speed on a certain regular section of level-ish straight road is just over the 95 mark on the clock, while on a summer warm evening it will barely get to 90 on the clock.

this is true but it does not account for precipitation it has been damn wet falling out of the sky.

I'm not sure...
I think that at mid-loads, a hotter air temperature and thus a less dense air helps to reduce engine pumping losses (you must reduce throttle restriction to have the same power).
Furthermore a less dense air give you less aerodynamic resistance...
I'm wrong?

I think it may be a case of 6 of one, and half a dozen of the other!

You can definitely make more power as the air temp drops, that is a fact.

Engine can give more power with cold air,but that's not the point when engine was used at half throttle.
