660 to 993 engine upgrade
Hey guys I have been working my hyjet pretty good hauling lots of stuff and often wonder would swapping a 993 in make much of a difference. I find on big hills the truck slows to 80kph but on the flat I can buzz along at 100 kph but seldom do. I like to keep it around 90. I have had it up to 110 once but was worried I was reving the engine a tad bit much. What is the actual red line on a 660 and a 993?

Think the general concensus would be its not worth it or I stand to be corrected not feasable. You'd be better off selling the current one and getting a 1.3 plus you would have the problem of getting a good 993 engine to put in anyway.

Oh I should add I am in Canada and options are slim. Does the 1.3 rev up like the 660?

Because we boarder merica in all its greatness everything we get is American size. Vw was one the only manufactured selling diesel cars here unless you had the quid for a merc. We dont get the model options like the rest of the world.

if it can be done i also think its not worth the money and you could better sell it and buy something with some more hp.
there is an other forum that has more of your type of hijet.
and is based in north america.
i think they will have more answers for you..

Re: 660 to 993 engine upgrade
i think there are a lott of questions regarding an engineswap
-will it fit your gearbox?
-enginemounts are probably different
-how will you get parts if something brakes down?
-the 1.3 does suffer a lott from overheating, it would suck if you go tru all the effort and then have an overheating engine
-the 993 is difficult to get parts i think
if you imported it from japan could it be an option to look for a same type or something near the same
buildyear that has a turbo.
and import that engine..
i think you can probably forget an easy swap with an 993 or 1.3 ..

Re: 660 to 993 engine upgrade
Ah of course, the Japanese versions (kei cars) with the 660cc engines. Was thinking to much European
But are there also 1.0EFI and 1.3EFI hijets with turbo?

Re: 660 to 993 engine upgrade
The biggest ? Was if the bell housing on all 3 engines was the same. I know some other manufactures design this way for makes it cheaper for tooling cost and setup

no, maybe some custom jobs but not standard from the factory.

Re: 660 to 993 engine upgrade
Hmm so leaves me to wonder if the 660 and 993 might be the same. Guess I may have to ask more on a forum from down under they get a lot of Japanese stuff and imports

Re: 660 to 993 engine upgrade
660 and 993 are compatible I think.
Never tried, but they should share the same bell housing.
993 would be better than the engine you've got, but they aren't the greatest of units!
