Camper conversion
Hi all
Just about to start on a camper conversion on my Hijet, I've been thinking about doing this for a while but i'm about to bite the bullet and get started. I managed to do a swop for some caravan cushions which will need some cutting/sorting and think I have a two ring gas hob lined up. If anyone has any ideas or dont do this suggestions I'd appreciate it The van is great,1999 and a genuine 27 thousand miles, 1.3 petrol
Cheers

Re: Camper conversion
I hate working on campers, it makes doing work on them more of an arse having to take extra stuff out.
Re: Camper conversion
Here's my camper conversion:
EDIT: Camping in the back of a van with only a sleeping bag and a quilt in February is *fucking* cold, if I were doing it again I would take a secondary quilt.

Re: Camper conversion
I saw a pro conversion that used the front seat area as a bed like that, made more use of the limited room available but I'm buggered if I can find a pic now

Re: Camper conversion
Darn wish I'd waited a bit before starting. Some good ideas there. I stuck a bike rack on the back last week, Then I started cutting my timber, I was going to to put a seat along one side but decided against it (wife said NO) so I am making up a kind of rock n roll seat see pics, I will build a frame at the back the same height as the storage box, see pic, the part with the two hinges goes on top of the box which has two wheels fitted, I can have my ordinary seat and for sleeping I will pull the box forward and the whole lot drop flat (hopefully). I am thinking about painting the timber any one got any suggestions on that.

Re: Camper conversion
Looks like my type of camper conversion. Though i recon i'd throw a load of covers in with me. (and more than likely a load of other junk thats not important)jamesstanley wrote:Here's my camper conversion:

Re: Camper conversion
Took side doors off today, degreased everything, replaced one bearing, not necessary as old one was perfect. My problem with the doors dragging was old grease that felt like candle wax, everything now smooth.
If anyone out there needs a couple of new bearings let me know.
I need a window winder handle, anyone know where I can go ??
My sink, an extra large dog bowl, cut out hole for standard drain kit, job done.

Mikehn: I need bearings for the top runner of the left-hand sliding door. Don't know if that's what you've got?

Hi Jamesjamesstanley wrote:Mikehn: I need bearings for the top runner of the left-hand sliding door. Don't know if that's what you've got?
The bearings that I have are for the middle runner (see pic.) They won't suit the top runner but if you want to do the middle when you are doing the top you are welcome to them.
