Not guilty M'Lud !!! You all know my feelings about Diesel Hi-Jets. The best thing for a Diesel Hi-Jet is a Gallon of Petrol and a box of matches. Blinking heaps of rubbish !!!

Well LDV I don't drive at thirty mph in fifth on the motorway's . ( but Dorset doesnt either does it ).As Gav said we haven't got any and only one Dual Cabbage way from Coppins Bridge
to St Marys Round about and that's 400 yds long and the 60mph bit is 200 yds long.
The only fun road is the Military Road from Niton where I live to Freshwater Bay a distance of16 miles driven at flat taps .

Anyway I couldn't care less about mpg. I just fill up with Petrol or LPG when it runs out. Too boring watching the fuel gauge. Have some fun son and thrash the wotsits off of it., Oh sorry no of course you can't can you coz they blow up at anything over about 60mph. Should have bought an LPG one then you have got Diesel economy and Petrol performance.
I just love the Dual fuel ones and a complete down on the Lombardini Lorries.  Mind you you would never guess would you. Sad Sad

That's another fault with Diesels Matt. They don't " GO" like Petrol ones when you stick a match down the tank. Nothing happens when you stick a match down a diesel tank -- somewhat similar to flooring the throttle on a diesel--- nothing happens !!! affraid cheers

Sounds the better option Gav. That's why I have got a generator in my
Garage at home. Petrol one naturally.
With three power cuts in Niton in the past two weeks its been jolly handy.

The Wood burner has been a really great asset too. Been trying to work out a way of converting it to produce steam and running my Hi-Jet on it. Not got past the starting line though. Evil or Very Mad  Evil or Very Mad

Come back Fred Dibnah. All is forgiven.

Where are you on the Island Gav.??

Tell you what. If you are a brave enough man I will take you for a spin--- no
strike that -- a drive in my MPV and show you what it will do.
My guickest time from Niton to my friend at Freshwater Bay up past Dimbola near Orchard Brothers Corner shop is 14 minutes.
Think you are brave enough ??

So Diesel hi-jets are really that bad that you'ed recomend leaving them well alone?
Mines a little Diesel 1.2 with a supected head gasket blown. (Though its done a good 20 miles like that, oil is clean and i think the water is too). Personly i'd have thoughted been diesel it would be cheap, and pull like a train. But in saying that my best engine knowlage is a 1971 2-stroke!

It isn't something I would want to attempt. Lots of piping and wiring to do and I would think that the tank fitting and piping would have to be carried out by a certified LPG fitter.
That was certainly the case when I worked for Romahome. I went on a weeks LPG course.
Save your pennies and get a dual fuel one.

I personally feel it would be a lot of awkward hassle.
Others may well disagree but I haven't the patience for that sort of thing these days. If you buy a factory
supplied system the you know pretty well it was done properly in the first place. But obviously it may have been played with by some backstreet abortionist in later life. I have been very lucky . All six I have had have been good except one on an O4 plate the green lights fuel indicator stuck on all the time.

You can buy a kit to fit yourself but I think they cost about £400 or you can get a specialist to supply and fit for £600+. (More than the vehicle worth?) A lot have websites so can be found online.

Thanks for the help

Well like woody says it would be better to get a factory fit n work on the small problems it may have picked up. So I'll sell my 1.3 n 1.0 vans n get a dual fuel one n keep the diesel one covered over for a classic in years to come

Thanks Gav.

I must say, my diesel didn't exactly pin me to the back of the seat! Although, I'm expecting a change of diesel pump should make it run a little smoother (and less smokey)

Can you believe it Gav. We have just had ANOTHER POWER CUT IN NITON.

I think the fact that I lived in one Charles Dickens former homes Winterbourne in Bonchurch has followed me here and gone back to Victorian times with candlelight and the woodburner.

I reckon we must be at least 40 years behind the times here having no gas in the Village.
