light wire for stereo dimmer

hi, i've just wired up a stereo but haven't found a wire for the dimmer (lights) on the stereo! anyone already done this and can tell what you wired it to Thanks

What sort of sterio have you got all the modern sterios I have bought or looked at buying have a built in dimmer that you have to switch yourself, If you need to pick up from some where you can just take a spur off the wire that feeds the dash lights the load will be next to nothing.

yeah it has the dimmer wire i just need to know what wire to tap into, it doesn't need a switch

Sorry whatI ment was the control is built into the face controls of the unit as it comes. you should be able to find a wire that powers up when the lights are on in the back of the clock use a test probe (bulb jobbie) into the back of the block conectors prob only 5 min job.

haven't got a clock lol, i know what i need to do just can't find a light wire

I was poking around behind the centre consol on the dash the other day as I found the cigerette lighter socket was wired back to front and there are a few extra block conecters that don't appear to be fitted or have ever been so you may have the wires but not the clock.

cool i'm puttin a clock in anyway so i'll do it all then
