Bugger engine light on....
....with fault code flash..flash..flash..flash......flash..flash which is coolant temp sensor oh great turns out to be the sensor bit has fallen out the back of the screw in bit hopefully be able to push it back in, in the morning when it's light.
Re: Bugger engine light on....
it fell apart when yanked last time I tok the head off as I forgot to unplug it and I have been meaning to glue it back together since will see how it goes but may have it if it's the same when your back from hols now go and warm your beer or missus up or better still both.
Re: Bugger engine light on....
Right Mr Electronics how much affect does the temp sensor have on the fueling? I have been having slight running/starting issues since it developed the open curcuit fault and the code hasn't gone with the reset and the temp gauge still works so am thinking something has got wet with all the puddles I have been through recently and failing that HJ is the spare you have a 2 pin connector and the loom side a green plug and how much?

It seems very strange that the temp gauge still works while the sensor is broke?!
But just hang there a minute while I post you another message!
Re: Bugger engine light on....
OKAY!
Been to the garage for a clue, and had a look at the wiring diagrams.
Here is the 1.3 hijet combined gauge and ecu sensor, it is a 3 pin jobbie.
Which will not help you I don't think, although you may be able to alter the wiring to use one like this but I wouldn't bother.
Looking at the wiring diagram, yours is like this;-
So you have two sensors, one with two pins that the ECU uses, and one with one pin that your gauge uses.
Which is like the sportrak ones I have in my tool box:-
but as you can see my ecu two wire sensor is broke, it came like that on the sportrak engine I bought.
So that explains probably why your gauge works but your ecu isn't reading the water temp. And if the ecu can't read the water temp it will not be able to up the fueling for a cold start situation, nor will it be able to lean it off for a hot engine. So it will pick somewhere in the middle and run a bit rubbish, and probably not want to start from cold.
Is that any use?

Wonder where rich is at the moment, not like him to not log in every night.
Don't tell me he's actually got a social life?!

Re: Bugger engine light on....
No I have no social life at all my internet went down due to Bloody Twats (BT) dropping the second line service and buggering it up for eveyone else I don't pay BT anything it all goes through EE now but HJ you have said what I thought was the case although I haven't found the gauge sensor but also haven't looked very hard either and the sportrac two pin one is the same as mine the metal casing and the plastic internals have come apart but push back together. It all seems to have sorted it self out now we think the sensor fell out around the time we were pretending to be a boat and water shorted out the wiring which gave the fault code the dash light is now out and engine running propperly so putting it down to that. Cheers for checking.
