Mine first reared its ugly head when the speedo cable broke so that would make sense, I replaced the cable but the problem didn't go but the speedo didn't work so I bought a replacement speedo and problem solved, until today I never knew what caused the engine to die.

If this gets concluded by a happy ending from Slippyfish then it's going to be another page/writeup on the http://www.daihatsuhijet.co.uk website.

I bet this problem has plagued people before, and some may have even lost the plot with garages not being able to fix it, so they do what everyone else does and part ex's it in.
