Road tax on your hijet

Hello

Looking for a Hijet Pickup for my next car, one with the LPG system would be my ideal find.

Road tax wise I'd like to make sure I pay:-

Cars registered before 1 March 2001 (based on engine size)
Private/light goods (TC11) 12 months rate
Engine size (cc) Not over 1549
£130.00

I really do not want to pay:-

Light goods vehicles (TC39)
Registered on or after 1 March 2001 (not over 3,500kg revenue weight).
12 months rate
£210.00

I'm interested to find out who pays what, and what their year, body type, first manufactured date is, or whatever else you may know of the subject?

Ours is a 1995 MPV 993cc petrol only and was £112 last time it came through for a year.

mines the 993 EFI 1995 MPV petrol & 6months is £73 odd

1995 & 1998 993 vans both at £130pa

1300 efi, van, 2001 on an X reg, £130 a year.

Logi, dont suppose you know your 1st registered and manufactured dates?

Has anybody known of anyone that has a Hijet/porter that is taxed on the CO2 figures?

I've had a heated debate with a seller of an 04 plate Hijet that he was claiming was £120 to tax for the year... I really like the van but i'm pretty sure its in the £210 class as it had no CO2 figures on the v5c nor any tax disks to prove otherwise. I'm buying a van to keep for a long time, and it really gets my back up paying road tax

Mine's one of the last cheap(er ) tax 2001 ones, one of the reasons i bought it. Check the reg on the DVLA site, it'll tell you the road tax. i thought all the newer ones were dearer but i checked an 06 Porter on Ebay recently and it was cheaper (though it's the only one i've seen)

Another 1.3 LPG pick up in white, 2002 though, but its a bargain with only 16k miles on the clock.

Although I have a feeling there's something dodgy or damaged with it, but its worth a look being 20 miles away and small money.

There are no pictures of the passenger side because the A pillar has been badly welded back together for some reason and the B pillar/cab back has some really odd bends, body filler and paint. No way does it have 16k miles. More like 100k and some. Cab is a mess, chassis is rough and the drop sides are bent and badly resprayed.

That's a pisser, i hate going to see stuff advertised as mint, walk past a pile of s&!t, to ask the guy where the nice one is cos i'd hate to have wasted time and money .......
TBH, mine was originally advertised from a dealer for £1395 and "very tidy, gleaming blue paintwork". I saw rusty, not tidy at all, no brakes, petrol leaking, and a flat battery. As i'd gone to see it at an auction where it'd failed to sell twice i made a much more sensible offer and Hijet was Myjet

Looks like commercials between 31st December 2006 and 1st January 2009 fall out of the early class TC36 and later class TC36 - making it fall into the TC39 class.

They have been registered wrong I bet. Dealerships more often than no haven't got a clue half the time.

They both belong in TC36 surely by the rules in the direct.gov website. I wonder if you can write to the DVLA and get it corrected?

Well thats well wrong, because class N1 is light goods vehicle under 3500kg. And its an MPV making it a car.

But I think the dealerships have a problem, I don't think piaggio / daihatsu have got any CO2 emission figures for these machines, thus they cannot register them as a car under the CO2 banding tax rules.

See if you can find one Logi that has been CO2 tax rated, I have a suspicion there are non, and if there is they could all get re-banded into the cheaper class.

I have a Hijet brochure at home, about 2006, and I am sure it says something to the effect that an MPV is a conversion of a van registered as a commercial vehicle.

I also seem to remember a thread on the Daihatsu Drivers site about funny tax groupings for things like camper conversions and how they could be put right. However, I haven't looked for a while and couldn't say where it is on the site. (The gist I think was that the manufacturer, or importer, should have provided some form of conformity information which it would seem that Piaggio did not do. This did not apply to 1 litre MPVs though, I checked the DVLA site the other day and where your examples show 'N1' mine shows a blank).

That makes a lot of sense, so it would seem that Daihatsu are on the dodge so to speak, and because of such the owners get dumped into expensive tax bands. So it would seem there are three best buy hijets as road tax is concerned, but I'd check each vehicle as Logi's example below fouls the DVLA's own rules:-

Pre March 2001,
1st March 2003 to 31st December 2006 (TC36)
1st January 2009 to 31st December 2010 (TC36)

But this example that logi printed up, doesn't make sense one bit as it should blatantly in be in TC36, where its being charged at TC39 :-

TBH i checked a number of vans when i was looking for mine last year, as the road tax thing was a major consideration as i already own 3 cars and give the government more than enough of my hard earned. I only found one that came in cheaper after 2001, it seems to be the majority are the higher band. It's annoying for me as myjet is fairly rusty and ideally i'd like a decent shell rather than welding this up time & time again.

From what i've read, if you have a car in the wrong class the dvla will change it, but not back date any over payments the stingy twerps.

Theres something very funny about how all these hijets are registered, maybe they go into a big hat and get priced depending on the average menstrual cycle.

They're probably ex council vans, they're sneaky bar stewards like that.

I bought a March 2003 registered van believing it would be £130 but turns out it is £210 as everybody else seems to be experiencing. The logbook declares Co 0,964, HC 0,104, NOx 0,017, HC+NOx 0,121 and particulates blank. DVLA says I need a letter from Diahatsu (not a dealer) confirming that it is Euro 4 compliant, this is proving difficult as they have withdrawn from Europe. Has anybody already been down this route and if so what is the outcome please?

Don't think they are Euro emission standards compliant!

This is one of the reasons Daihatsu withdrew from europe as most of there product range had some kind of struggle meeting some form of euro regs like NCAP ratings, TUV in germany etc.

And since the biggest earner to Daihatsu must be selling engines to their mother company Toyota, and then Peugeot and Citreon I guess its no big issue to them.

This thread has just reminded me, mines a 51 and £130 road tax! Ill need to check my V5 tonight.

I think it was only the later Piaggio Porters that became Euro 4 compliant. (Daihatsu engine though).

Incidentally, why have DVLA removed the tax amount from the 'Vehicle Enquiry' output? The last one I looked at was taxed but had no amount stated.
