What other vehicle fitted the 1300 efi motor ?

there are a lot of variations
hijet is the only one with the tilted hces
charades have the hce and some other vehicles
and then you have the hde .. almost the same engine but 1.6... its in the applause and some others

its funny to see how good those engines are in other cars, they are realy good reliable engines.
and then they tilted it and put it in the hijet and it all went downhill

So true Scotia. I have 2 Grand Moves I use regularly and it has a small radiator on it and never overheats or uses/loses water. Fan cuts in and out regularly in traffic. 1600 Engine in a bigger heavier body and goes like stink, but always stays cool.

Presumably it is the ease with which the air can circulate through the radiator and passing air getting around the whole engine bay helping to cool the engine yet more.

Whereas in the Hi-Jet, the radiator is at the mouth of a Funnel and channels hot air straight at the engine and all the equipment around the engine doesn't make for good air flow. I found that the with the plastic undertray removed, my pickup stayed a little cooler possibly because the cooler airflow over the sump area.

If it is more BHP you are after then really your only choice is the 1600 engine. At 94bhp it is 29 bhp more than a 1300.
Quit a bit of work to swap all the 1300 relevant parts over to the 1600.

Highly Jetted has done a very comprehensive article on what is involved in the swop over. It should stop you in your tracks when you see what is involved.
But an almost 50% power increase is worth having if you are brave enough to do it and use the extra power.

Seen that woodie when I was young & foolish that was the way I would have gone, did a Ferrari engine & box in a Mk1 Transit, Alfa engines in Midgets, Ford V6 in Morris Minor, but now just want 5\7 Hp.
Looking at exhaust inlet head, the boys that raced\sprinted Charades were running high Hp so what I am looking for is possible.
The heat problem is a question of clean waterways pipes rad etc, moving the air around engine is another  but not insurmountable

5to7 bhp is bit of a waste of time, money and effort in my book.
Speak to Charles at CTM Performance Engineering. He has tuned Daihatsu 16v engines for years for Hot Rod Racing. He can port the inlets with a ground finish - not polished, and match the inlet manifold
Larger valves, Piper Camshaft etc.

He quoted for a fully tuned and balanced 1600 lump for me around 135 bhp. Wish I had gone for one now. Too late now with my health problems.

in the g100 1.3 charades they often fit the 1.6 engine to the 1.3 box and 1.3 ecu.
it uses the same enginemounts and fits the 1.3 box so is an easy swap.
they take the applause 1.6 engine from before 1998 .. i forgot why.. i think it has some more hp and some other small details..

they also do litle things to the 1.3 like fit cold air intake (which actualy gives the charade some extra hp unlike most cars)  
1.6 inlet / 1.6 injectors / different exhaust / 1.6 spaghetti exhaustmanifold / decat

just some small things like air intake and exhaust and it will go from 90hp to 109hp

i had a GTti with around 130 hp and my mates modded charade g100 with 1.6 was just as fast as mine... which he found a lot funnier than i did

the older shape the g100 is way more fun than the newer shape g200
the g100 has 90hp the g200 84hp standard
the gearbox from the g100 is more aggresive to

the g200 with 84hp and
Spaghetti exhaust manifold
2 inch exhaust + decat
1.6 inlet
1.6 injectors
Cold air intake
will get around 100hp

Hi Scotia. Lovely bits of information there. I wish I had all the head knowledge (and Cylinder Head) about the various engine number types and what fits what etc.

Tubular Exhaust Manifolds we call Banana Bunch Exhausts rather than Spaghetti Exhausts. I have not heard of anyone who makes one for the Hi-Jet. It's certainly one of the mods I would like to do. The cast iron
Manifold is about as efficient as using my Grandmother's Knitting Bag!!

The De Thomaso (named after Alessandro De Thomaso the racing driver, who had owned the Innocenti name) was a more powerful version of the normally aspirated GTI Charade for the Japanese market. It was 124 PS as opposed to the 105 for the Export market. They fetch stupid money over here and I know that it was on Matt's "must have" list at one time.

a guy who lives 8km from me has one in his shed (needs restoring)
i think thats the only over here..
there are a couple of guys who imported the bumper/spoilerkits though

There are a few over here. I have seen one chap who imports them and advertises on Ebay.

Very nice Scotia. Yes you are right about the Camshaft. They had a pretty hairy profiled one. Road/Rally specifications almost.

yes i have seen some over the years in the uk.
and they indeed make crazy money

like the older GTti thats going up in prices to..

great litle cars but suffer a lot from engine bearing faiilures
but the litle 3 cylinder turbo sounds is verry awesome

I just love the sound of a 3 cylinder or a straight 6.. Keep your V8's. Gotta go. Doctors calling.

Problem is in a Hijet, even the hot charade GTi engine will be down on power as when fitted to a hijet, you have to use those god awful manifolds due to the lean over engine design.

Don't get me wrong, it'd be a hot Hijet.... but aren't they all
