Engine cuts out straight away Empty Engine cuts out straight away

Does anyone know why a 1.0 efi engine would cut out seconds after starting? also the fuel pump had stopped, but i've bypassed that now and wired it directly to a live wire. I presume it's a sensor/fuse type issue, but it's baffled me a bit as it sparks and turns fine, ive got petrol flowing into the injectors now but its just not going. I think it might be an ecu problem of some sort but it's right hassle trying to get it to a garage to go on a diagnostic machine. your suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks, mat

i would have thought the ECU controls how much fuel goes in and when.. so bypassing the main power source maybe your issue.
or...
a bad earth/live shorting out. a nightmare to find.. but id start with the pump wires.

hi, thanks for your reply.
There is/was no power going to the fuel pump hence why i bypassed it to a different connection.
But i did accidentally brake what i think is an earth wire/braid when trying to fix the problem. although i have tried connecting it back up this doesnt help, but the braid looks shot anyway. and theres another thin looking earth wire going knowhere next to it. So tomorrow i will have a mess around with earth wires, and if this doesnt work i'll have to take it to an ecu machine. Will let u know how it goes, mat

you can make your own Earth wire with a thick earth cable, 2 crimps. cut wire to length then add the crimps and bolt in place of the old wires.
be sure to clean/wire brush the area where you bolt them down for a good connection.

yeh i did make my own earth wire, but with no luck, its still exactly the same. There is another wire on the top of the engine block coming off where the wire braid goes to and this just hangs loose, theres nothing it seems to be able to connect to, the only things it can reach arent related to the problem, does anyone know if this wire is spare? its a thin yellow and black wire about 15cm in length.
I'm running out of ideas now. The fuel supply and injectors arent working, what could it be?!?!
thanks, mat

no the ecu has a self diagnostic function you need a copy of the manual which you can get from this forum and you find the unused three pin conector thats near the ecu and short out two off the terminals and if there is a fault code it flashes the engine light on the dash and you use the sequence to match up in the manual to see what it is. simple Laughing

ok cheers for tht rich. I will definately do that. It's probably best to put the electrics to the fuel pump back to how they originally were because theres obviously an underlying problem dont u reckon?
I'll be glad when its all sorted so i can start talking about camper conversions for the summer! This one is giving me headache, hopefully theres some light at the end of the tunnel soon! Wil let u kno how it goes, might get round to doing the ecu check tonite, mat

Well i've put everything back to the way it was before and obviously it still doesnt work. I couldnt find anything on the ecu self diagnostics in the manual, i've downloaded the copy in the forum and there are some pages missing in the EFI section so i presume its those pages that i need! I hope to get it to the garage tomorrow to put it on the machine there. I'm starting to think i mite need a new efi ecu,

Is the ECU light lit on the dash if you switch the ignition on? if not then there is no stored code or you have had the battery (negative) disconnected which is the ECU reset.

@rich Cheers for the manual agen, i've been really busy this weekend but took my van to the garage friday, it turns out the ignition coil and amp have also broke now, im not sure how but i might of knocked them or summut whilst tryin to fix it. The fuel pump is fixed! it was a blown wire somewhere underneath the van - easy to see when youve got a ramp, also the injectors are working. So hopefully fixed soon wen i get hold of the ignition coil n amp. Ive started thinking about conversion plans and ive drawn a few little designs up. If anyone is after any seats - middle and rear - let me know because ill be stripping the interior down soon, im in west mids,
