Pickup Big Deck New Owner
Having been looking for a pickup for a couple of months i was aware of the Big Deck but had never seen one. One came onto EBay last week but had no interest as it had been listed wrongly. I made an offer out of auction, jumped on a train from Lincoln to Llandudno and after 7 hours and in the pitch black bought myself a 1998 HiJet 1300 pickup. It's not an original Big Deck, it's been added after. The extra lengthened width makes it infinitely more useful to me and i'm very proud of it.
Bodywork is rust free and the bed and dropsides are mint. It's just had a recon engine before i picked it up and runs well but it does have loads of niggly little faults that i'll soon get through. I have a collection of Charade GTti's and a few other bits and bobs and although my mates are goading me fitting a motorbike engine etc, this is a workhorse for me and replaces a Skoda Pickup i had for 11 years. Anyways, forum looks to be active and full of good advice. Hello!

Welcome, Scarface - hope to see pics when you can post them. Is that the one with the ply-lined deck? We have a few others with Charade connections on here...

Welcome Scarface, if you need information to maintain your Hijet, you came to the right place. Being a new member myself I have found many answers to keep my van going. Would like to see pics of your pick-up, we don't have Big-decks over here in Malta, they were never imported.

The Big Deck is 355mm longer and 65mm wider and the dropsides are made from aluminium

Piaggios version of it is all steel. I have one in Pale blue. The tipper body is the same width and uses the same tailgate but with different hinges and bracketry and the flat-bed is roughly 10" longer than the flat bed or tipper.

Re: Pickup Big Deck New Owner
I have got two Hi-Jet Tippers so I am going to take the hydraulic gear off one of them and put a normal pickup bed back on, then use the tipping gear and the Big Deck Body on an 08 Porter I have just bought and put one of the 1600 engines I have, in it.
But that's for next Spring when I retire and hopefully will have the time.
