1.6 conversion

Wonder if a sportrak 1.6 hf engine will bolt to the hijet gearbox? 90bhp would make a hijet a bit more pokey.

i know id love to know if a Hyabusa (not shaft drive) or BMW (shaft drive) motorcycle lump would fit!
mind you i have pondered.. if you gave the wee van more power.. would it make it more unstable to drive than it can already be? or is that just the new driver in me..

There's a Reliant Robin on Youtube somewhere with a bike engine in it...........and it flies !!! I doubt if that Sportrak engine would fit due to the size of the inlet manifold.

what if you cut it shorter, took the one from the sportstrak and welded it on to the cut off?

To let you in on my top secret reseach .....

Both engines share the same head gasket kits, so they *apparently* have the same inlket manifold gasket, exhaust manifold gasket etc. Basically they are both a Diahatsu HF engine, so with a bit of swaping of this and that like the sump as well (the lean over pickup version), maybe it will fit. But i'm temped to buy it to find out.

I love drifting my van, thats why the tyres are fading fast!! I would quite like a bit more torque so I can push the back out easier. The other item i'm gagging for is a Limited slip diff, but after about 20 hours research on the swubject the best we can come up with is swapping to a diff from a suzuki jeep thing and then fitting an aftermarket diff to that casing, but seems like a right mission. If I had a spare diff I would weld mine up solid.

Looks like i'm making progress, might have found a 105 bhp daihatsu engine that will bolt in with some swapping of bits.
