Hijet and Euro 4
I have recently bought a Daihatsu Hijet 16v EFI LPG registered on 13/03/2003, the DVLA website say's any vehicle weighing less than 3.500kg registered between 01/03/2003 and 31/12/2009 road tax for year should be £140 when I got the tax from the post office I had to pay £220, so I went to the DVLA office and the lady said that was correct, but when I pointed out what the website said, she said she needed to talk to her manager, when she came the reply was that as the vehicle had not been registered as Euro 4 when first registered I had to pay £220 tax. Has any one else experienced this situation, is there a way around it? The lady gave me no advise.

Re: Hijet and Euro 4
You will have trouble as the Hijet is only Euro 3 compliant.
Maybe read through this lot as there is some good chatter about this subject https://hijet.forumotion.com/t455-road-tax-on-your-hijet

Re: Hijet and Euro 4
My Hijet pickup is registered March 2005 and the Euro 4 implementation date was January 2005. So does my vehicle qualify as 4? Is there someone where I can officially check my vehicle?

Re: Hijet and Euro 4
I went through this and visited the dvla in wimbledon ....end game got me no where .
2003 lpg/petrol hijet from new
I always thought mine was euro 4 though from its paperwork I could be wrong but dont think so .
Im not paying the new london charge either .
At one time I never paid the congestion charge until around 2009=10 abouts
Also managed to get my parking permit in london free via the LPG this was for only a few years until they canceled that too
Remember the DVLA are a money grabbing bunch they are the a ss holes selling the private parking scammers all your data to the tune of millions and millions per year .
Gotta keep those bonuses rolling in .

Re: Hijet and Euro 4
Euro 4 was only a requirement for new type approvals.
Thus if the vehicle had been type approved earlier (like the hijet was back in 2000), then they could keep manufacturing and selling them under euro3.
Euro 4 was only mandatory for vehicle manufactured after January 2006.
I think when this was studied back years ago, I think Hijets were all only Euro 3 compliant.
And because they are based on a van, commercial vehicles had some exemption which allowed them to be sold after the cut off date.
But there are some late model Piaggio Porters, that are registered as Euro 4... around 2007 onward plates, but not 100% sure.
This was the conversation years ago, nearly 11 years ago!.. https://hijet.forumotion.com/t455p30-road-tax-on-your-hijet

Re: Hijet and Euro 4
So, have I got this right?
LPG gives cleaner emissions than Petrol. Thus, LPG vehicles in the past didn’t have to pay London emissions charge. But then DVLA decided to ignore the LPG modification and rate instead at the original V5 fuel listing of petrol.
So, if measured by the cleaner LPG it would be rated Euro 4, but DVLA ignores this and now rates it as Euro 3 petrol. If this is true – then it is outrageous! With LPG 40% cheaper, who would choose to run on petrol? This seems pure bloody mindedness. Write to MP time?

Re: Hijet and Euro 4
40% cheaper but less energy density per litre (volumetric.)
It is more economical, just not by 40%, the emissions should rightfully put it in the lower tax bracket if there was any sense at the DVLA.
