1.3 EFI Fuel Sender Fixed
Hi All.
Just like to pass on my experience with fixing the fuel sender on my Y reg 1.3 EFI panel van.
One day the fuel guage suddenly went from quarter-tank to empty as i stopped on a down-slope. Also the warning light did NOT come on. Researched a few threads here and elsewhere and thought it's probably the float come off.
Removed fuel tank (fiddly job) and then removed the fuel sender unit - a plastic tube with a long, thin circuit board going down the middle. Sure enough the float had come off. Managed to find the float and re-fitted in the tube and re-assembled. Great! it worked....erm.....for a while until it came off again. Removed tank again determined to create some bodge-up to keep float in the tube. Whilst checking the inside of the tank I saw a flat, circular object loose in the bottom. After much fishing about I retrieved this object which turns out to be an END CAP for the tube!!! Refitted the float and fitted the end cap ensuring that the small pin-holes (one on the end cap and one near the top of the tube) were unblocked. Refitted the tank and it worked. The guage works, the warning light works and the guage itself is more stable (i.e. not behaving like a spirit level at the slightest change in motion)
So if you have a sender unit of this type there is probably an end cap for the tube somewhere!.
Hope someone finds this useful.

If this is the same for the 1.0, this would be very useful, as mine has a tendency to jump all over the place like a rabbit on speed. Thanks Paul!

Nice one Paul, I'm sure that will save some people having to do the job twice, as you did.
LBV - What prompted you to give a bunny speed (or am I thinking of the wrong kind of rabbit)?

I never did give a bunny speed, just the fuel guage behaves how I imagine the bunny would.

Wonder what would happen if you gave tbe bunny Viagra
My fuel guage works fine till it reads between quarter and half, then it stays there for a bit and suddenly drops to empty.
