Anyone want to help build a hijet website?

So you know, I'm basically paying £45 a year to host these manuals!!!

My old sites used to use 1gb per month, now with the hijet manuals hosted I'm doing 10gb per month.

My old hosting was £25 a year, now its £70.

I'm going to have to change something or remove them or something??

Have a look at Tso hosts "standard hosting" 2.99 a month.
20 gig monthly transfer, 2.5 gig hard drive space, host 5 domains.

Havnt looked any further into it but they are decent to deal with.

Either that or zip them up and host them somewhere free.
Dropbox offers 2 gig free space. I've heard they are pretty good.

They look pretty good value, unfortunately their limits on domains and mysql db's wouldn't meet my requirements thus I'd have to go with their "ultimate" at £20 a month. I currently use http://webhosting.uk.com as their cpanel packages allows unlimited domains and mysql databases.

The manuals page is the most visited page on the site,

but close behind is /hijet-camper-vans/ with 361 hits over about 4 months - so if anyone wants to do some camper related stuff its sure to been seen, influence and educate newcomers to hijets... for better or for worse

There's an old saying, "you get what you pay for"...I think if you want multiple domain names and mysql databases (whatever they are) then it is going to cost, however there are lots of good free alternatives should you find such a way that you can manage without these features.
I used to run a website for a slot car club and used "moonfruit.com", if I used the free package (but still ad free) it did mean I had to store and link phootos from Photobucket but that wasn't a problem. PDF files I kept at keepandshare.com, which works better than Dropbox in my opinion. I don't think you can put links on a website to link to dropbox, from what i've seen of it unless I have it all wrong, you have to invite people to join your dropbox in order for them to download stuff, keep and share you can simply put a link on the website and it will open up when clicked.

yea ive never used dropbox - it was just one i pulled out of memory.

have you got a robots.txt.?

if so add the pdf's to it to stop crawlers reading it. that should dramatically reduce the bandwith used by them.

Now that is a bloody good idea. I do have robots, and sitemaps etc.

Nope, beckrowbikers I think belongs to Leopard Pagan who runs this forum.

There is no way I could reduce my domain or SQL count, I have contracts with quite a few people, companies and clubs to host/manage their sites. I sort of need their money

I think what I'm going to do is:- Put more work into the hijet site, make the content better to keep the visitor surfing from page to page, insert links for products etc that will pay me some affiliate money, and put some google adsense banners all over the site. This way it'll be paying me maybe £50 a year so it at least balances the books. Unfortunately I'm a person not a government

Well done, M8 - well worth effort. Looking at the parts list on the rad cap issue, I wonder what the 2 symbols to the left of the first 2 numbers refer to - does it say on the original, and does it explain the numbers in the first column? I'd guess the symbols refer to different markets or engine number range, and numbers in brackets could mean an option.

Also I think the observations about the rad having 2 bottom hoses only applies to the 1.3, as my 993's have a more standard layout. Sorry to be pedantic, but you might get some 993 owners thinking they have the wrong rad fitted.

Symbols next to the part numbers I'm not sure what they mean at all, nothing in the manual from what I can see defines them. Fair comment right there about the radiator hoses, and really I need to make sure the reader realises I'm talking 1.3 spec and not 993cc. Cheers for the feedback, I'll do some editing soon, bet its full of errors as I never proof read it or anything

The first two camper pics are definitely the demountable Romahome pods which basically sit on the flat bed of the pickup. These are quite different from the Bambi/Nipper conversions which ate built into the cab and chassis of the pickup, and are not removable.

If anyone is interested, I am selling my Romahome pod at the moment!
