Few Questions :)
Well through a weird turn of events, I might think about putting the hijet back on the road.....
So, I want to know a few things
Mine is a van, so do the rear tailgate and the 2 sliding doors need to work for the MOT?
has anyone fitted a bigger/better radiator to the hijet?
I was thinking about boarding up just behind the seats, (perhaps apart from a small slot each side to reach through, allowing the sliding doors to open)
but I wondered about fitting a bigger radiator and fans in the back, to stop it from overheating so easily.....
Basically my overall project idea is this:
- seal the cab up completely
- remove the rear tailgate and sliding doors :- then modify/replace the tailgate so its got a pickup style drop tail and a lift up top, and then board the front part as well. (it would reduce load space, but the area behind the seats, where the rad would be mounted, would be fairly roomy, allowing an LPG tank in the future
- fit radiator behind the seats (perhaps 2 small rads connected in series. one each side of the open section......
The reason I am thinking about these mods, is to stop the hijet from overheating, and I cant afford a pickup....
what MPG should you get from a hijet 993cc 3 cylinder? I used to get 30mpg from mine........
Thanks

Re: Few Questions :)
Ok I have a modified mk3 escort with no rear door handles I have been stopped many times with loads of different questions the one and only time it was traffic they were a little arsey as I'm motor trade and know the bulk of the bits that affect my modifying and I also had a MOT station fail the car for no handles what the book states is that all doors should be able to be opened from interior and exterior and that counts for the rear door(boot) even though you can't open it from the inside. I have a system to hide in plain sight or you have to weld up the closures so it is no longer a multi door vehicle.
Re: Few Questions :)
I thought you only needed the doors to open if its a car/mpv/minibus though?
basically so people can get in and out....
I always thought on a van you didnt need them...
but I thought I would ask.....
my exterior sliding door handles and tailgate dont open from outside....
the tailgate mechanism is broken, so a bar inside the tailgate is required to open and reset the latch.
and the sliding doors only open from the inside....
well the tailgate can be sorted using a couple of spring loaded gate bolts and a hasp and staple (for a padlock)
the sliding doors.....I will have to see whether my local MOT place would mind if they dont open from the outside.....
what about having no doors altogether?

Re: Few Questions :)
thats fair enough
I know any passenger door needs to open from both inside and out....
will contact local MOT place and see what they say.

Getting a handle on it
Hi
I have Hijet mpv and when MOT was due, one sliding door the handles were broken on both sides, other one, outside handle was broken. Guy at garage said, take seats out then it won't matter - sent it for MOT.. no problem. So I'd say that your initial thoughts are correct.
Now got handles fixed after buying new from www.hijetparts.co.uk
Sorted
