Steering column movement, Common?
Had my MOT today which the van failed on excessive steering column bearing wear. (plus other stuff) Before I pull it apart and have a look I thought i'd see if movement is normal as they're so basic.
I just have a bit of movement of you wiggle the steering wheel side to side.

Cool, the one at the scrapyard I tried had the same movement but its failed anyway so i've ordered a new bush at a shocking £32.

Re: Steering column movement, Common?
Resurrecting this thread to see if there is any additional or up to date information on this. My HiJet failed it's MOT two years ago and I've decided to resurrect it from its storage and sort it out. Looking back at the MOT fail it has excess movement in the column. I've been and tried it and whilst holding the steering wheel and rocking it it has a fair amount of movement. Is it a bush or a bearing in there does anybody know to save me tearing it all apart?

Taken one apart and it’s a plastic bush, no idea of the part number, even looked at the manual and parts lists but still couldn’t find it listed.

The diagonal split is correct, allows it to be put in place without dismantling everything.

Looks simple. If thats all it is, I'll probably make something. Looks like nylon. Ive got tools and all.

Re: Steering column movement, Common?
Did anyone get any progress with this? Have just had a fail for the 'top steering column bearing worn'. Any info would be gladly appreciated!

They all do it... shim the outside of the bush with some cut up coke can.
