what 13" wheels are the best to fit?
Ok.I have had a good look around, and there is some very competent information here. But,very simply...if I buy a set of wheels for a 106 pug,and a set of wobbly nuts, should they fit on my late 90's 1300 hijet?
Will they simlpy go straight on with no fouling issues?
My thanks in advance.A V

Thanks for replying Matt, but I don't really understand your answer.
Do you know if a set of wheels from a pugeot 106 or similar will fit a hijet.I ask this because I found a post somewhere on here which suggested that it is possible.
What wheels and tyres are you currently running on?

hi, I've got alloys, but i think theyre original as i have the SE version. I did hear somewhere that the studs are a spaced a further width apart to usual cars (such as a 106 etc) and that it shares the same alloys found on most trailers and quad bikes. So its definately worth measuring how far apart the studs are before fitting alloys, mat

Re: what 13" wheels are the best to fit?
Action Van,
I recently purchased a set of 14" alloys which came off a pug they were "Oz Style". The PCD for the Hijet is 110, Pug and Ford 108. My understanding is that as long as you have "wobble nuts" you can use them.
The alloys did fit but I think you really need to be careful what size of offset (I could be wrong and would myself like advice on this) as with the pug alloys I had they went on the studs but there was minimal stud left for bolting. This also happed with a set of minilites I had
I was also told that mini alloys fitted. I have tried several mini alloys and they did NOT fit.
I have seen several pictures of hijets with Minilite alloys and wonder if someone who has a set on their van could enlighten us.

Re: what 13" wheels are the best to fit?
Mini lites are not just for mini's they make them for all sorts they are a popular choice of wheel on old fords so they are available in the 108mm PCD. The stud fitting is due to the stock studs being for steel wheels so if changing to alloys you should have the hubs off and change the studs for longer ones, and the offset on pug and ford wheels is not far apart I have old fords and used to work for a pug dealer, my wifes mark 2 escort has 14" wheels from a 307 which go on fine but if you want to fit ford wheels to a pug you need a extra 10mm spacer other wise the wheel won't go on as the calipers are in the way.
Re: what 13" wheels are the best to fit?
Rich, thanks for that. How time consuming and cost wise would it roughly be to remove the stock studs?

Re: what 13" wheels are the best to fit?
at a guess because I have only changed studs on trailers with no brakes but I would think a couple of hours or so to do all four wheels. Now I think about it there maybe offset studs available they would be a bit fiddley but you could correct the PCD at the same time. when I did the trailer last I took out the 8mm studs and used 10mm bolts instead so some studs made up turned off centre by 1mm each would give you 108mm PCD.
Re: what 13" wheels are the best to fit?
you can get minilite style rims from tyresave in 4 x 110 so no messing around fitting.

Also some old mazda's have 4 x 110.
I've got a set of ford rims still sitting around which I haven't fitted yet. I'm a little worried the backs aren't going to fit very well as the rear drums don't have a centre ring (can't remember real name) Also you need to enlarge the centre bore on the rim a tiny bit for the fronts.
When I get a chance i'm going to have a quick look at the hubs to see if they are changeable. I think Suzuki carrys are 4 x 100 pcd so if the hubs were swappable that would be a good way to go.

This may be a dim question, but what is the reason for wanting to go to 13" wheels?

I like retro stuff, I like low small cars with wide wheels. I'd do 14" also if a nice set came up. Thats why I go 13". Plan is to lower the van a bit too so it doesn't roll around so much.

Re: what 13" wheels are the best to fit?
I recently won a set of Ford 13" alloys off Ebay for £80. Bought a set of Wobbly Nuts and had no problems at all fitting them. No probs at all with the front centres. The Wheels however do stick out slightly but I have a set of arches which I will stick on when I get a free moment.
Have also got a set of 14" ford alloys (not new) if anyone is interested but en route via courier one was scuffed (which I have taken a pic of) and will need to be sprayed. Drop me a message and I can give further details.

OK, I can understand low and wide, but increasng wheel diameter would contradict low. I guess there's more availability in 13" dia though. Are there really no wider 12" rims that would fit Hijets?

It wouldn't because the tyre wall changed in relation to the wheel size. So a 13" wheel will have a lower profile tyre, as would a 15" making the total diameter the same (ish)
Trouble with 12" wheels are the lack of tyre choice. There are a few nice quad alloys that are 12".

Re: what 13" wheels are the best to fit?
It didn't occur to me that anyone would want to put lower-profile tyres on a Hijet. Can you get 6-ply radials in low profile even in 13"? Maybe you don't carry loads though and are happy with 4-ply, but that wouldn't work for me.
