Does a tow bar exist for the (1995-1996) 993cc blind van model?
The question is in the title. I know of tow bars for the pick up model exist, but how about the blind van? I've got a Renault Clio tow bar laying around that seems to fit with some proper welding, but isn't there an official one? Don't want to risk my MOT with a tow bar that can't be removed...
I've also got a bull bar for it, but I don't think that it was sold officially... Were they even sold with a bull bar on it?

It is how the Piaggio brochure refers to a panel van.

Blind van is a van without windows (so not the passenger carrier). Didn't know the term wasn't used outside The Netherlands, but it's on the registration papers. Daihatsu Hijet 1.0 Blind van or something.

I had a original tow bar on my panel van (1998), so the do exist. With some luck you'll find one at the scrapyard.

Yes tow bars exist for this type of van.
I have never seen the term "blind van" as a description for a "panel van"

Does anyone have some pictures of it so I can try to make one myself? Because I can't find a tow bar anywhere.

I don't know if making it yourself is a good idea. What are the consequenses if something goes wrong according to insurance?
Maybe you should be patient and use Marktplaats. I found a lot of stuff.
There is a scapyard in Heeze, Argos, who has got two old panel vans. I don't know if they have the towbar you need but you can alway's send them a e-mail.

Here's one I'm in the middle of fitting to my 1.3. Â I assume that the 993 bodyshell is the same:
The towbar.
Dataplate of the towbar.
The bar is little more than a bit of bent box section with a couple of tabs on each end to match up to the rear valance.
LH mounting. Â The bolts go through into a void in the valance, with a sandwich plate to act as a load spreader.
RH side, same as.
Forward mounting to (I presume) the battery tray. Â I don't have the bracket for this so will need to make some up from steel sheet.
Hope this helps.

That is not how most of the other panel van hijet tow bars are mounted that I have seen.
They go through the two holes behind the bumper.

Here's a drawing from the Dutch operators manual (993cc).
It looks the same as the one on a 1.3 exept for the angled brackets at the end.

Thanks for all the information! I'll see if there are scrapyards near (Heeze is near enough) that have one lying around.
I really hope they aren't as expensive as the ones from Ebay. It would be a lot cheaper to make one myself...

I finally found one brand new for an acceptable price in The Netherlands. Only cost me 125 Euros at OnderdelenDirect.
Picture, another picture, more picture.
Now I'm not sure if it will fit my van, because it's easy for these webshops to make mistakes with the pick-up/van versions, and the pictures that are shown here differ from my bar. So if anyone would be so kind to give some useful input, that would be awesome.
Edit: I think they may have made a mistake and sold me a pick up model tow bar. It never ends.

It's a Brink I think but unfortunately it's not for a van.

They are selling it as applicable to my 33kw CB41 van as seen on this page... Am I missing something here?

Same here. Selling the exact same part number as fitting for my van.

Typical isn't it? My Towbar is different to the ones I have removed and fitted to customers vans. This one has three bolts and a irregular shaped bracket and sandwich plate on the Nearside but the usual two bolts and oblong Sandwich Plate on the Offside.
But it is a plain and simple construction apart from the Shaped steel plate and the Towball Mounting Bracket.
Not the sort of thing that the average DIY Mechanic could make up.
