Timing belt replacement Empty Timing belt replacement

Post by Megarett Sun Mar 15, 2015 7:49 pm

Does anybody have any experience replacing a timing belt in a hijet/2007 piaggio porter van?
Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Things to look out for, tools needed, links to videos or other resources?

Thanks so much.

Marks on the cam pulley are vague.

I'm doing one today on my 98 Hijet pickup. Looks fairly simple, alternator and airbox out and then you're left with some space to work in. Hard bit is normally getting the crank pulley off but i'm going to go straight in with an impact gun. Some would say to replace pulleys and tensioner but my truck is just an old beater so i'm just changing the belt.

I guess yours is a 993cc?

Every vehicle I have seen with a snapped cam belt has had a fucked tensioner pulley or waterpump.

If I wanted to be cheap, I would probably just change the tensioner pulley and leave the orginal belt!

Get a telescopic inspection mirror and small torch to aid eyeballing the timing marks.

And a new tensioner.

I use an old rear view mirror I keep in the tool box which is from a Hijet I broke years ago.
