best filler for rust holes?!
so i have a few holes i want to fill up before they get too bad, been told they are not mot failures and its fine to fill them.
its been years since ive done this, seem to remember using something like p38 and some wire mesh.
im wondering what you guys think is a good cost effective product. im loathed to go to a car spares shop as im sure they will be twice the price of getting anything online, im not worried about cosmetics as they wont be very visable and will paint over it anyway

when you have a hole in your tooth do you just put some chewinggum over it?
ore are you going to the dentist to cut out the rotten part and replace it with some decent material?
you cant repair or touch up rust
it has to be removed and welded back up or else it will consume your van.
i know its not the answer you are looking for but whoever told you its fine to fill up a rusty hole is kind of retarded.
if the holes are not in sight/visable just ask someone you know who can weld it up for you.
you can do the pre work en aftermath yourself to save costs...
the welding itself doesnt take that long , the pre and aftermath work does.
so if you do it yourself it will not cost that much i think

Realistically we would need to see your hole to decide what you should fill it with.... Some things last longer than others and will fill your hole better. You don't want it falling out half way through, a good hole filling should last for ages.

Seriously though, unless you cut out the rust and replace it with good metal it will return rapidly. Sure you can fanny it up with filler P40 and shite but if you intend on keeping the van you're just postponing the issue.

Re: best filler for rust holes?!
As long as you remove all the rust you can just skim over with filler, as long as the hole is nothing more that pitting.
The rust needs taking off both sides of the panel, and bond something on the back, and paint over it.

well, i needed a puncture repaired so while the wheel was off got a better look and ... poke.. around at my .... holes.... so yeah... ..bigger than first expected so not worth the effort of cleaning up and .... filling.... still only about 1/2inch... x 1inch... but i suppose ill have to get a professional to this job... makes a change from doing it myself i suppose

Filling your hole yourself has it's advantages, you know exactly where the hole is and where to put the filling to the best effect, no fear of someone mistakenly filling the wrong hole in the dark

Could be a pleasant surprise, you might end up with holes filled you never even knew about

I think that's best. You will also know exactly what is being used to fill the hole, whether it's the right filler for the application, and if it's new or being re-used.
