Electrical power loss Empty Electrical power loss

Post by rich the mechanic Fri Jan 17, 2014 11:14 pm

Over the last few weeks in the wet I have noticed that the headlights dim a little when going through any water thats enough to reach the wheels over the tires but comes back up to full power after a few seconds and sometimes get a little squeal of belt slip, I thought it was just shorting the lighting circuit out some where but I had the wipers on tonight and they slowed down as well. I am thinking the positive feed is shorting at the starter motor causing the loss elsewhere I don't have the deflector fittted as the bolts all sheared off when I took it off for a job under there and I haven't got round to refitting it 2 years later and I don't recall it doing this before anyone else had this and find what the cause was I am a little loathed to lay on the wet floor to look I have adjusted the belt incase it was just slipping and I'm getting no power loss from the engine.

Its the belt slipping when it hits the water, there's a fair load on the alternator with all the stuff on, mine does it too. A new belt would probably help.

I've though mines needed a new belt since the day I bought it.... I've just never got round to it   Embarassed  Mad

It makes typical belt noise at idle, probably wants the pulley groves cleaning up too.

If thats all it is then all is well it's not had a new belt but it is kept tensioned if it squealed everytime then it would have been my first thought but it don't.
