Mines an early type that dose not have the diagnostic port.

Re: rev counter
ok right here is the like to ebang for oldie
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/52mm-2-Rev-Counter-Tacho-Tachometer-Gauge-With-White-Face-Blue-LED-0-8000-RPM-/360649794427?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item53f867237b
its not as cheap as i said but there are cheaper ones but they dont come with a pod.
first of all the mounting of it , i went for the left had side of the speedo binical as it didnt obstruct anything and it gave me a good viewing angle .
as you can see it was strait forward to mount , just two self taping screws and a 5mm hole for the cables to pass though.
once it was mounted it was just a case of abit of power and the pulse signal .
i took the power from the back of the fag lighter as it was the most accessible source of power that came on with the ignition.
Now for the pulse signal wire, my van is a early 1.3 16v with twin coil packs and no odb2 port. Having a poke around with the fluke multimeter i found the tacho output it was on a little 4pin connector just pokeing out of the loom to the right of the heater, it is right at the back and a right fucker to get to! the output was on the black and yellow wire.
As it was a right wanker to get too i made a little plug pin to stick in the connector out of a wire crimp and cut the end to a point , and then just taped it to stop it falling out.
once that was in it was switch on time!
A a quick blast down the A46 and all seem fine and dandy . its probably not the most accurate bit of kit but then it was £11.50 off Ebay. it dose the job tho, 70mph is about 4000 rpm .

Re: rev counter
I am sure it will GT---- me for one as I will buy two or three to keep on the shelf.
Gonna be a bit of cursing though getting my mobile bear traps into that small
space to reach that connector block.
Think my Grandaughter will be seconded to
do that for me. She loves tinkering with cars at only 11 years old. Takes after her Grandad definitely. Poor girl.!!

Re: rev counter
yes woody it sure is tight in there ive got cuts all up my arm from this job, worth it tho if you have a willing small person then get her in there !
This is the early type 1.3 (NO odb2 connector) pulse for tacho is on a black and yellow wire
This is the later type 1.3 with odb2 connector , it looks to me you should be able to hook your rev counter to a pin on this. its not as clear on the pic but it is also on a black and yellow wire according to this schematic.

Re: rev counter
I've had a look at the add on eBay now and I guess they must be selling 12volt
Tyre Pumps too. The Rev Counter price has been INFLATED to £15-99 now.
Still a good deal though at that. I sold three larger secondhand revcounters
at Beaulie Auto Jumble last September for £25 each.
Just going to order a couple of them now.

Oh right thank you GT. Glad I haven't ordered it yet. I got distracted by
another matter. Obviously good timing in this case. Cheers for that.

Re: rev counter
Thank you very much for that GT. I have ordered two.
I tried ordering two at once but it wouldn't play ball and tried
to charge me £2-58 for postage for one.Its nice to know that modern
day computers can get befuddled--- not just old farts like me!!

Yep that's what I said.xxemaphorr wrote:That yellow/black rev wire runs to the 4 pin diagnostic port so you can just connect in to it there. This is where I put mine. Bit fiddly cutting the right space out of the instrument surround though
