Hijet stalling problem Empty Hijet stalling problem

Post by tat1959 Tue Oct 16, 2012 7:10 pm

I have got a hijet 1300 efi which I am having problems with. The van starts fine but it will stall all of a sudden and will not start untill you unplug the ECU while the ignition is switched on which I understand resets the ECU. I took it for its MOT while on the exhaust test it showed that the fuel mixture was going very rich and it stalls. Has anyone had this problem any help whould be great.

Hi, sorry to hear about your troubles,

First I would read this and give it a go, it might give you the answer straight away:-

http://www.daihatsuhijet.co.uk/hijet-diagnostic-engine-warning-light-flash-codes/

make sure you read to the bottom of the page for pointers with a 1.3 hijet

I tried the check the flash codes as shown on site mentioned but dont know where the codes show up. There was nothing on the dash when the igntion was turned on any ideas what I may be doing wrong, I had the brown wire conected to the bolt holding the ECU to the body work.

The orange engine warning light should flash if done correctly on the dashboard, think its on the left hand side - it normally comes on when you turn on the ignition key.

If there are no error codes stored or activated, the light will just blink for 0.25 seconds then off for 0.25 seconds, and keep flashing like that.

If you got no flashing it means you didn't get it activated quite right.

You need to connect up the wire as shown, then turn the key to the on position.

p.s. What year is your van? If it is later than 2005 then you can do it with a plug in scanner in the obd2 plug under the dashboard on the drivers side.

The van is 1999 so things are not that easy. I dont seem to have a orange warning light on the dash, is this light just a bulb that I can replace or is it a LED that is built into the dash.

Yes it is, you pull of the trim round the clocks, just by pulling it with your finger tips from the inside edge. Then I think 4 screws round the clocks, then you have to pull it out a bit to release the speedo cable and the other wires.

Often sellers and garages take the light out of the dashboard or they pop the bulb by putting it on a 24v battery chargers so they can hide issues, but all cars do an engine warning light bulb test when you turn them on at first, and certainly a hijet does.

Just to up date, the diagnosis came up as water temp sensor, after being sent the wrong sensor from main diahatsu agent who then got in touch with diahatu only to be told it doesnt have a water temp sensor. after pointing out that they had already sent me a water temp sensor for a hijet but it was the wrong one, they looked into it further and finally sent me the right one which I have fitted to day. All looks good and so far it seems to be running fine.
Thanks for all your help
