Hijet Engine Problem Empty Hijet Engine Problem

Post by peanut_brittle Wed Aug 29, 2012 8:27 pm

I bought a hijet with a 993 engine from a lady in Devon, sold as seen but recently MOT'd. Drove it up the road back to Scotland but it died just outside Hamilton, yellow light which looked like a fan came on then an oil light, then tonnes of smoke out from under the passenger seat.
RAC man told me I needed a new engine (when he stopped laughing:-) I can get my hands on a 1300 engine but need to know if it will be a straight swap for the other engine or is it hugely different? Really want to get the girl running again, a real fixer upper but lovely. Can anyone help? Thanks

That's a fair ol drive and to break down so close to home is bad Sad

I can't answer your question, but welcome to the forum.

I did drive from Wales to Greenock (My home town) and break down at Langbank, at 2am on a Saturday morning, just as it started snowing! Sad

bad times mate, Although if it wasn't knocking or rattling you'll be able to fix that engine. Sound like head gasket has gone, and there will be a few other little fauts that caused it to fail probably.

But as a guide to go from the 993 to the 1300, you will need.... Engine, gearbox, ecu, full wiring, all the sensors, maybe the dash clocks, and possibly a load more stuff!

Thanks for sending the info. I might get her to a mechanic then and see if she is repairable first. You've given me hope!

Bummer! Glad to know someone else is of the same mind as me and likes the journey! Intend to tour Scotland if I can get her fixed.

The only difference between the clocks is the 1300 has a petrol light which the 993 doesn't but we have a 1300 clock set in our 993.
