Faded bumpers - Which back to black product?
Has anybody tried to back to black their hijets bumpers?
Mine are totally faded and grey, and I'd like them to be crisp black once again.
What I'd like to know is which products work and which don't?
So far on the white panel van I have T-cut the whole van, touched up the chips and scratches with some colour matched paint, and then colour magic polished it. Also I have painted a full set of wheels in satin silver and fitted them with a full set of genuine centre caps. Hardcore hovered it out, put a new door handle and mirror on it, and I'm waiting for some pads and new number plates. Should look almost mint

Someone has told me to use a hot air gun all over it
Re: Faded bumpers - Which back to black product?
Others are saying use peanut butter or olive oil

ive always used boiled linseed oil. Has always worked well and is cheap, less messy than peanut butter.

Yup! Boiled linseed oil is good.
Could also try black shoe polish.
The hot air gun method does work, but I've only tried it on bump strips, not on a bumper the size as on our vans.
It works by bringing the oils in the plastic up to the surface, but this can only be done once as the plastic can end up going brittle.
Can also look patchy over a large area if not done correctly.
Or you could try Plastidip, it's like a rubberised paint.
It has a matt finish, but you can always put a coat of car wax over it and that would give it a nice sheen.
The more coats of' Plastidip' you spray on, the easier it is to peel off in-one if dont like it. Simples.......

Jesus 6:16am - does that time actually exist?
BTW I've found WD-40 does a pretty damn good job of bumpers

Yes, it must do - I don't want to see it though. Oldie must have been looking for his meds - he's repeating himself now!HighlyJetted wrote:Jesus 6:16am - does that time actually exist?

I used the Carplan Black Trim Wax and it worked a treat. I did cheat: I poured it into an old jam jar and painted it on with a brush Quick polish after a bit of setting time and bingo! Black bumpers and wing mirror backs.

I used to use shoe polish in a liquid form that has a little sponge on the end of the bottle.
Just done wing mirrors and windscreen trim with Halfords spray plastic paint. Works a treat. Easy to use and pretty forgiving as there is no colour change.
