Is it just me thinking " leave the doors off"?

I think a pair of tube frames with some canvas wrapped round and a bucket of drab olive and it will be a one off for sure.

My Mrs thought I was a bit of an 'oddball' when I bought my van, now she's realy worried about me since I told I like these .

Took the van out to a local VW show for the Weekend. Was great with the awning on and super comfy to sleep in. Forgot my camera so didn't get any pics but had a lot of people say how much they liked it and one bloke told me it was his favorite vehicle at the show. (think he forgot his white stick and guide dog).

Re: my hijet project.
I think alot of VW folk would get drawn into Hijets if they could buy a VW camper style front end for them.

Couple of pics of how its looking at the Moment. Its my only vehicle at the Moment, First time i've only had one car in about 7 years. Arches are more just to keep the law happy than for looks, i'm not 100% happy with them but they're ok til something better comes along -

What a fantastic Hijet, looks really classy and purposeful. A damn fine example.
Re: my hijet project.
Does look like a Mean Machine! Is the chap in the background having a John Cleese moment, getting ready to thrash your van with a branch in envy?

Hi Ash
Looks sweet
Are they bay window camper mirrors?? (i`ve been looking around for some nicer looking mirrors for mine and all i can think of is Vw camper mirrors)
Are the Police up your way strict with thing like wheel poke??
My Hijet has been running poke for about 4 years and 3 owners and has never failed mot or even had a 2nd glance fom the Police
(I`ve hated the 15" wheels since i`ve had it but i`m still looking for some Ford Cortina 13" steels with centre caps)

Re: my hijet project.
Think ash got the mirrors off an old Suzuki SJ jeep. I put some old
Repro 80s motor bike mirrors on mine , £20 off the bay.
I'm with you on the 15s not my cup-o-tea . I think 14s are
the biggest you can go without making your HIJET look
Like a roller-skate .

SJ indeed. Mine poked a bit too far to get away with. tbh the arches look better in the pics than in real life.

Are they group 2 mini arches? They look ok.8bit-ash wrote:SJ indeed. Mine poked a bit too far to get away with. tbh the arches look better in the pics than in real life.
I want to put some on mine on mine after dropping it abit, I think
Some Hillman imp arches modded will do as they
Follow the arch all the way around like my old mini euro arches.

Re: my hijet project.
I tried group 2 arches but they're not symmetrical so don't fit properly, these are old cosmic ones made from super thin metal. They'd be better in grp or fibreglass.

Quick pic of the van doing what it does best, Moving shit about. Shows how ratty the paint is but it doesn't really bother me. Started calling it 50 shades of red.

Re: my hijet project.
Now all you have to do is to colour code the front bumper to smooth up the lines ?
Mind you, it would be a tough job to find paint with the same weather worn look as the original :-)
