Types of injectors for 1.3
Hi,
My little Piaggio is a 2007 and has dark red injectors on the rail. I have a spare engine from a 2000 hijet that has orange injectors on the rail. I wondered if anyone would be able to advise on the likely differences OR on how to find out what the difference is. I know HighlyJetted wrote up some piece about injectors when doing a 1.6l engine swap a long time ago, maybe someone can remember the details. I want to try the orange fella but if it works I'd like to know the longterm implications.
Why do I need to know? I have a misfire (no fire) on cylinder 3 which has compression (175PSI), has a spark (also coils swapped to eliminate possibilities), which only leaves fuel as the culprit. The head has just been swapped which may have damaged something. It was a relief to see I have got compression, that's for sure.
Anyway, any information gratefully received!

Re: Types of injectors for 1.3
I think they are fundamentally different.
I think the old ones are low impedance injectors, and the new ones are high impedance.
It's to do with the coils in the electromagnet part of the injector. The ECU has different transistor switching electronics to control them.
If you want to know if its a fuel problem, squirt something fuelly down the inlet/throttle body and see if the misfire fades

Thanks, armed with your advice I now know there are the low and the high impedance injectors and it's possible to tell between them by measuring the resistance accross the terminal.
I'm not sure why I haven't tried the E-Z start trick yet, should have been obvious but haven't had a suitable aerosol to hand while at the van.
It's very kind of you to keep on here with the knowledge and advice. Or do you use this forum as addiction therapy to ward you off ever getting a hijet again?

Re: Types of injectors for 1.3
I'm not 100% confident I am right about the injectors... measure them, its been along time.
The orange injectors were on the old Hijets, which had the old Denso ECU with no OBD2 port.
The red ones were on all the later ones which has a different ECU (I think it was black plastic case) which were OBD2 compatible.
Why am I here..... it's something different than kids or Haldex! There is not going to be any more Hijets here 100%.

Re: Types of injectors for 1.3
Just in case anybody ever needs some information again and the forum survives, I found a little information about the two types of injectors.
From this great website daihatsu hijet 1.6 conversion:
The red injectors on the newer 1.3 (that I have) are marked 3410 and I can't find any information about those at all.
Hopefully tomorrow I'll get to play with my Porter and see if it'll run on 4 cylinders with EZ start for a bit.
@HighlyJetted Haldex looks pretty serious!
From this great website daihatsu hijet 1.6 conversion:
the Sportrak injectors are exactly the same CC flow rating as the original Hijet injectors so they will not help you – the Grey sportrak 195500 2040 injectors are 186cc @ 3 bar and rated at 13.5 ohm while the little orange Hijet 3480 injectors are 186cc @ 3 bar and have a resistance of 12.3 ohm.

Re: Types of injectors for 1.3
Hi, to finish this story, the engine runs again. I cleaned the (original) injector in a bath of meths then washed it off with some degreaser.
I don't think the orange ones would be a good swap, I don't think they provide as much fuel flow as the newer maroon ones (they have less holes in the tip etc).
So now my little van runs fine with its new head. The new head is off a 1990s Sportrak. How'd you like that, HighlyJetted? Recipe for disaster?
