Distributor Question Empty Distributor Question

Post by Westy1 Wed Aug 30, 2017 10:37 pm

Hi people been following the group for a while but this is first time for posting hope I don’t make mess of it. I have a question about the Distributor on my Camper.
1999 Hijet 993 EFI petrol engine, had to get under a few days ago to check exhaust and found rubber pipe about 30cm long just hanging down from the body of the Distributor open end has a clip on suggesting it should be attached to something.
Engine is running fine been over to the Lake District a few times and North York Moors recently (I live in the Teesside area of the UK so decent mileage.)
Anybody any ideas please going to attempt to put a picture up.Thanks,  hope the link works   Sorry can't get photo up try again

Westy 1? Hope you are not going to turn out to be a little Terrier. The moulded pipe you have found is there to let out any moisture that forms in the Distributor when the engine cools down and as a breather.
So panic ye not. It is supposed to be like that. If you look closely you will see that the end of the rubber moulding is blocked and there is a small square hole in the side of the moulding - unless some twerp has cut the bottom of the pipe off.

you need to post the BBCode not the direct link
when you view a picture there are a couple of codes you can copy on the bottom of the page.
copy the BBCode one for full image (not thumbnail)  and paste it here

thats the way i post pictures from my oldskool pc, it could be different when using tablet or phone Neutral

From Scotia's picture and mine It appears to be a breather pipe once again. The metal pipe is not connected to anything in the Distributor as in a mechanical advance /retard mechanism as most distributors had years ago.

Yes, it is FAR easier using a Tablet Scotia. Even I can do it. Haven't got a clue what you were describing and I wonder if Westy would either. Posting pictures on my Laptop was dreadful hit and miss experience. Utterly archaic system.

It's just this Old Fossil then obviously Scotia with a wierd blend of old and new technology. Seems like Westy although 15 years older than me does undoubtedly understand. But I have never owned a tower computer and separate keyboard so can I please be excused?
I just know that it was a real pain with my Sony Laptop to try and post ANY pictures.

its difficult, and especialy when using different divices and trying to explain to somebody who uses a different device.
