No I'm not doing this myself but I just want to know

The timing belt is not running across the water pump so I would say ... leave it.
But what do the most of you people do. Replace it in advance?

I had mine done at same time as it was of unknown age and while one being done down there it was just as easy for garage to do pump and belt a same time. I did have however other work done at same time.

On the 993cc engine the water pump is behind the belt. It's not driven by it, but to get it off you need to remove the timing belt. So on a 993cc it's best to do it at the same time, because when changing the belt, you're only 5 minutes away from a new and fitted pump.

The 1.3 is a different engine, so I wasted a few seconds of my life writing this, but I guess it will end up in the search one way or another.
