Leisure battery location Empty Leisure battery location

This is just a thought, I currently have my leisure battery (the vans a 993 camper) under a seat behind the passenger but thats valuable storage space. Anyone located a leisure battery anywhere better?
Did think if it was possible to have another battery box near the existing one putting the battery beneath floor level (...but it cold and dark outside and not going out to look...at the moment!).

Three major problems with that Raggy. One is called the spare wheel which when move from its comfortable hiding place as Per LPG Tank on Dual Fuel models, the spare wheel has to go inside the vehicle taking up much more room than a Leisure Battery.
In the opposite rear corner there is a Battery Boiler AKA the rear Silencer or in your case the long tailpipe depending on what system is fitted.
Offside in front of the axle is the rather long slender Petrol Tank.
On the Pickups the battery is fitted to the chassis on the nearside directly behind the cab. I either unbolt the battery box and move it forward and then fit another genuine Hi-Jet battery box behind it on the chassis rail and make a split charging system. Or if I just need more power fit a 540amp hr. Battery or cut the battery box in half and weld in a new middle section and fit the massive amp hr battery off my old V8 3Litre 32 valve BMW 730.
But none of that helps you because it can't be done to the Vans due to the box section of the lower door runner assembly.
Basically you run out of options under neath when I have tried to do it.

No worries Woody, its priorities, looking after wife comes first. As for the battery its as much as I thought then unfortunately, looks like I'll keep it where it is. It was just a thought on a wet and dark evening.

Move the wheel to the roof rack or put it on the front (mounted to a sturdy bullbar).

Roofs out as I have a tilting lift up camper roof. The van is like a brick aero wise any way so cant imagine what adding a wheel to he front would do (shes only a 993 anyway). I like the idea of bull bars but they are like hens teeth to find.

Bull bars as you  say are hard enough to find. D1NOH, Logi   and I talked on here at length about them.
They are all attached to the front suspension  suframe. He has a Snow Plow  with  some  nice strong mountings which fit under the front bumper on a 1300.  
I tried to adapt a Bull Bar off a Bedford Rascal, but gave up in the end.

My second Honda Acty Romahome had a Bull Bar fitted with a spare wheel on it. I have still got the spare wheel cover (10" wheel). The problem I found is that it adds nearly 18" to the front of the cab which you have to be VERY mindful of that fact  when parking between vehicles. I had a couple of minor
"KISSES" with it and took it off. Quite honestly they are bit of a nuisance in my opinion BUT they do make the van look very Macho.

I do like the look of them on the van though, add a couple of driving lights and spot on, so if anyone has them lurking....
Misswd out on a van which had them on when looming for mine, it set it off well.
First car was a mini which I did the usual change engine, wheel flares etc and added the driving lights to the front just like the coopers, looked brill...to me anyway Smile

A company I deal with sell the New Style Mini Cooper ( YEUK!!) Chrome Spotlights (5-1/2") for £20 a pair. Plus I have bought 100w Xenon bulbs ( 30% brighter) for them too so equivalent to 130w.

I have mounted them on an old spotlight bar I had on my Skoda Rapid Coupe and lit them up in my yard and they are pretty impressive ( 520 watts equivalent). Enough to burn the paint off off the back of a slow moving night time driver that needs a wake up call when I am in a hurry to get past. (When am I not driving in a hurry).

I have wondered about this, if you're willing to spend some money on newer, smaller batteries I reckon you could fab a new, longer battery box that would hold 2 smaller(but better) batteries?

An interesting thought Logi, never thought of that. Now any suggestions on possible batteries? Leisure needs to be a good one mind.

Trouble is Logi that the box is pretty close to the LSV in front of it and close to the spare wheel on the L/H/Side.
Possibly if you went as far forward as possible and turned the batteries 90` and extended to the O/Side you could get two small batteries in.
But if it is possible the problem with that is that leisure batteries are designed for a low power drain over a longer period. An ordinary car battery won't give you that.

Duracell do a battery size chart, measure what's possible, find something suitable, if it was easy someone would have done it first Wink

Thats what I did to get the Heavy Duty Exide Batteries I posted about last year. Instead of 300amps for the van I got 560 amp and for the Pickups 540amp.
I just gave my local Motor Factors the maximum dimensions of the battery boxes and they came up with the business.

I will have a look at the Duracell site shortly. Quite a "Bright Idea '.

Well you never stop learning. Didn't know that Duracell make car batteries. Just had a look at the Website and there is even a map to show me the route to the nearest Dealer in Poole.

May be going down the leisure battery route myself, have quite a few weekends of whitewater rafting booked for next year, will be sleeping in the van so may need to rig something up.

Well there certainly seems a requirement for owners needs for a leisure battery. I have got a few Hi-Jet battery boxes and lids. I will have a go at seeing if there is a place to put one.
Trouble is brake pipes, handbrake cables, wiring loom etc. are all over the place under there.

I have mine next to the standard battery box just to the left, had to cut a hole in the floor to fit it and have a box made but it's sound. I didn't have a spare wheel under there any way, I have a tire in a can, I like to live dangerously
