clutch slip

hi everyone and happy new year
I seem to have a slight problem with me clutch slipping it has only done three times on a steep hill so at the moment I,m taking things carefull the clutch does bite at the top off the travel. do you think can I adjust the cable I would like it to last a bit longer before I change the clutch at least till weather gets a bit warmer. and is the cable the plastic thread going into the gear box. thanks
