I'm doofer. Yeah!
I tend to fix and or make things, project manage, electronics fault finding, IT/network engineering, engine management work, engine rebuilds, welding, tiling, joinery, plumbing, stuff really. I have a passion for two stroke engines, electronic fuel injection and making things better.
Bought a house last week that i'm extending and remodeling etc. I do everything from kitchens to windows to re-roofing to digging, basically everything but I dont plaster or lay bricks or lay carpet. Some things are best left to people who can do a better job than me
As a partnership with a friend I'm also developing a home control system that gives you the ability to control different temps in rooms at different times, curtains, lights, music/video media, gates, garage doors etc etc all from your web browser remote. Based on PIC microcontrollers.
Oh and for light entertainment I surf the net a lot, as you can probally tell.... anything to keep me off ebay spending money I dont have.

HighlyJetted> www.sionics.co.uk is where i work.
My boss can design PCBs, send the designs away to PCB manufacture, receive the bare PCBs back, paste and surface mount components, hand solder through hole components, then ship back to customer. we can test products as well if the customer sets this up with us. we have a high standard of work, definitely to IPC standards.
We build one offs or regular orders. RoHs or non-RoHs for military/NHS/prototype use.
some of our customers had touch panel screens for hospitals, Cambridge silicone Radio Bluetooth is our main customer, fuel tank alarms, we already have one customer that uses IR to control various things in the home. to name a few.....

Re: What do you lot do when your not playing with your Hijets?
Came out of HMF injured and wanted to do something different; Now working as a custom bike painter/weldor & fabricator - I guess you could describe it as different........... Currently involved in two bike restorations, with a third in the offing, if ever this freezing weather breaks and I can go collect the bits (or they get delivered to me).
Purchased the van as I 'needed' another project vehicle - NOT!!! Only discovered the unique temperament after purchase................ Only got the coolant system to sort out and I'll trust it to go further than the local super store car park.

What do you lot do when your not playing with your Hijets?
Hi I build and repair motorcycle wheels, plus a bit of r&d on mono shocks for new bikes. spare time is filled with my mountain bike when I get the chance, sorting out my Yam YB100 and one day might get the bits sorted to rebuild my SRX6 and my mk3 escort all this when the Wife hasn,t got me running here about as she doesn't drive.

By day I'm a cnc machinist, using haas vertical milling machines and lathes. evenings and weekends I find much pleasure it tearing down hills on my mountain bike and my ripping through the country side on my beloved CRF50 replica mini bike, hence why I bought the hijet so easy to transport stuff around in, cheaps as chips as it only cost me 50quid, bargain!!

I like your thinking! I was going to live in it whilst using a tent for the therapies - nothing fancy, just take out the rear seats and bung in a futon and a gaz stove with kettle and something to put beer in .. but I may just see which works best.

Great minds think alike !!!! Had a very similar idea with mine. Except that instead of a tent I'm going to get an awning that can be left on site if I need to move the van! I spend a bit of time through out the year at various bike shows and it's got to the stage now where crawling out of a tent onto damp grass to pull my jeans on is less of thrill than it once was...... a bit of comfort goes a long way, that and somewhere to cook a bacon sarny standing up
Anybody thought about having a 'Van Jam' this year or perhaps attending a show as a club???

If anyone fancys it test and tune days are hosted at north weald airfieldthe web site is www.northwealdmotorsport.co.uk but just tried to get on there to see the dates but looks like the server is down. The guy that runs it is pretty easy going and if asked if we want a area to put all the vans together would proberbly sort it out its usually £10 per person to get in and if you want to run then its £20 for as many runs you can do and thats cars or bikes or even vans https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwBpmbVQIAw they also run bikefest and vw-fest both with test and tune sessions as well as a couple of test and tune/run what you brung.

I hear you on the comfort thing - a friend tried a single futon in his as it apparently stops the bedding getting damp with condensation and you don't wake up needing a chiropractor just to get out of bed I like the awning idea too and I can taste the sarny from here
H'mmm.. come to think of it maybe I should aim to be treating all the campers with bad backs A summer touring shows etc.. now there's a thought!

Ahhhhh... *wipes a tear from her eye* I have just been laughing at the thought of racing my bus.. it scares me to death racing it to work everyday. The road I take got diverted just before Xmas and I had to take the coast road - see link
http://www.flickr.com/photos/iow_sparky/3333471671/
On the left of the photo is a chalk pull in, to the left of that is an almighty drop to the rocks below I took that downhill road at 60mph and the wind took me.. lets just say that the adrenaline lifted my eyebrows clean over the top of my head and then made me laugh like a Hyena on dope
Over 65 mph she begins to shake like a clowns car .. ahhhh racing..

Re: What do you lot do when your not playing with your Hijets?
Thanks for that little comment LP - thats exactly what Poprivet does; bounces and shakes like an over weight belly dancer on a trampoline!!! The guy who did my MoT did suggest I get the front wheels checked for balance.... Seriously at 70 mph my passenger has to brace themselves against the door frame because of the way it all shakes around... I think my next stop is the tyre fitters.

more bikers....
Hi everyone
We are both keen bikers/rallyists, John has Guzzi Breva and Di has Suzi GS650 on road at the mo. John also into mountain bikes & road time trial cycling.
We use the van to transport bikes/motorbikes mostly but also as an occasional overnight camper (just crawl in the sleeping bags in the bag, no actual facilities).

Re: What do you lot do when your not playing with your Hijets?
Yet another biker here!!! As a strong believer in bikers rights, I use my 'jet to haul stuff to MAG & other
bike shows & rallies.
If the number of 'jet owning bikers continues to grow, maybe 'biker' should be added into the forum title
somewhere !!!!! :-)
regards to all!

We've already thought of that but thought it was better kept seperate but it is bizarre the amount of hijet/bike owners there are
