Re: insurance time
I know that there are factors that insurance companies take into consideration, age, area ect but I only paid £230 full comp on my van, that was through compare the meerkat.

Re: insurance time
Johnnys top tip - I spoke to a specialist insurance company that deal with modified cars (greenlight insurance) as i've got my other car insured with them.
Initially they said they couldn't insure it as it didn't fit into any of their modified categories. It CAN however fit into the 4x4/greenlaning category with very minor mods in that sort of direction.
In my case a snorkel air intake takes it into that category, and saved me about £160 compared to the cheapest quote on all the comparison sites. All my no claims are on the other car.
fitting a winch (however small) also counts, as would anything like lift kits, chunky tyres etc.
Its all about thinking outside the box!

Re: insurance time
been driveing over 30yrs with no accidents but in the last 3yrs ive had a hit and run when i was parked up over night a windscreen and a stolen car that was planted into a supermarkets doors and although i had protected no cliams they still put my premium up as id had 3 none fault claims within 3yrs so protected no claims means nothing realy, seems if the insures cant claim from someone else they make sure they get there money back one way or another

Re: insurance time
Ponzi scheme is a pretty loose description of a business model that takes todays income to satisfy yesterdays debts. Insurance companies would go bust if a slightly higher than average claims to policy ratio was to occur even though every policy holder was sold a promise to pay on claim.
Re: insurance time
had i known about the 3 claims in as many years thing i wouldnt had claimed on the windscreen but all those bits are lost in the pages of small print all you see on the cover is (protected no claims, free windscreen cover) FREE yeah right

Re: insurance time
i alway wondered when i saw <politie op je hielen><slough police reality series> why so many people in the uk drive without insurance?
in the netherlands 99% drive with insurance, so i was realy suprised by the amount of non insured drivers
reading the above posts makes it a litle more clear to me

Re: insurance time
I'm not sure if i've had a rant onn this forum yet about my ongoing insurance claim..
A lorry pulled onto the wrong side of the road and hit me head on, mangled my car and nearly killed me.
Coming up to 5 years later and I have still not received a single penny from the insurance company.
Words cannot describe how much I despise the system of insurance.
Especially considering I paid extra for legal cover, personal injury cover, and uninsured loss cover.
Because of that accident I lost my job, my house, and because they didnt pay out anything, I didnt have a car for over a year, I nearly went bloody bankrupt!
The only time you want an insurance company to step up to the mark and the bend you over a barrell.
I'm still chasing them on a weekly basis.

After 5 years I would be chasing them daily, if not 2 or 3 times a day.

Well, I don't understand your problem then it must be something you have told them.
'Van with side windows' is DVLA code for the mpv and is shown on my V5 whilst the Association of British Insurers lists the mpv as an estate car.
Therefore you should get car insurance. However, if the insurance compay ASKS if it is a van you say no because it has seats in the back. That originally happened to me and I had no further problems.

Have to contacted the insurance ombudsman? If not ask the insurance company for there contact details. They are obliged to give them to you and it puts them on notice that you are taking the matter further, other than that citizens advice are very helpful.

Re: insurance time
i pay road tax seperately, interesting your having probs with aviva as mine is described as a panel van on v5 and so far they are the only ones who have insured it as a plg and not comercial so allowing me to be insured to drive other vehicles. ive never bothered with no claims protection as i found after each accident i had i did my usual ring arround for quotes and got ins cheeper somewhere else.

Re: insurance time
Keep in mind daihatsu dealers were not very good at registering vehicles.
Insurance companies use the dvla database, and if the dealer didn't fill the form out correctly then you get computer says no.
And the windows could have been fitted as some type of camper conversion later on.

I have my honda cubs insured with Aviva, I phoned them to put the Loncin on and got told they don't insure the Loncin. Contacted Swinton Bike who got it insured with Aviva.
