Changing the Coolant Empty Changing the Coolant

Post by Willst0ne Mon Dec 09, 2013 3:18 pm

Hello,

Ive had me Hijet for 6 months now and shes been running beautifully. Ive been checking the oil, coolant levels etc etc as Im still as paranoid as ever about over heating issues.

Not had her out in a while and went to check things over and found that although the water in the reservoir was still between the markers the water in the radiator cap was about half an inch lower than normal and a lot more opaque than normal.

Is this early indicators of over heating or does it need a coolant change? If so anyone any info on how best to do this.

Many thanks

Tell take of problems is when you look under the metal cap and its not 100% filled with coolant.

ANY air gap in there says there is an issue.

Prob a small leak, dodgy hoseclip, something like that. Deal with it now, I reckon that's why most bugger up. Loss of coolant, airlock, no coolant at the fan switch, overheats, wahey, fooked Hijet. Sad

I had a feeling something was up by the color and lack if coolant under the metal cap. How is best to top the coolant level up under the cap to see how much it is loosing? Thanks

If I top up the coolant levels in the reserve tank will that have an effect on the levels under the metal cap? Or is it work topping it up from under the metal cap? Thanks in advance for your help. W
