I'm back ...
Just thought I better log on and say hi .. again .... had a few personal things going on so wasn't logging on chatting anywhere .. but hoping things starting to settle again now .
Im due to go away in my camper in a couple weeks and can't wait .....
and can't remember if I posted on here last October that I passed my motorbike test ...
Can anyone tell me of a mechanic in Essex that will work on a hijet? think mine might need checking over soon.... or how easy can they be to work on? I have previously done a few basic jobs on other cars and my previous honda acty .. with the aide of a haynes manual ...

Harlow isn't too far ..... I'm near Southend .. I wouldn't have a clue about compression tests .. lol I know I need to start looking at doing a few jobs on mine .. hoping most will wait till over winter now ...
so do you have a garage or is working on the jet just yours and a hobby?

I can recommend Arrow service https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ll=51.718561,0.132962&spn=0.002725,0.006802&t=h&z=17&layer=c&cbll=51.7188,0.132329&panoid=RU1fEB36Jxs1n4nWMQf8GA&cbp=12,215.85,,0,1.46 if you look back right hand side you can see a A-board Hijet

Re: I'm back ...
think will need to give the water system a check over .. and I seem to be using a lot of oil... (think head gasket needs replacing) ..
but all complicated by the fact that I have the romahome pod on the back so need to remove that to get at the engine..
not looking to do them just yet .. as apart from using oil it seems to be running ok .. (touching lots of wood ) .. was thinking of a overhaul for the winter .. as also need to upgrade the rear leaf springs ..

How much is "a lot of oil" ? Not a common prob with them, my old one had about 130k on it, hardly used a drop. Is it burning it? Leaky sump plug/filter? Has it been changed lately? Is it using water/ pressurising the system?

Re: I'm back ...
erm..... lol
oil wise... last year I noticed a hot/burning smell when doing a short run to the train station from my house (about 2miles max) the bf at time (now ex) looked at it and put a black sealant around (i think on the head) this seemed to sort it .. (wasn't loosing oil other then small amount then) but in last 3 months I have used a 5 litre container .. half of that last weekend..
I do need to check levels again .. and will poke my nose underneath to see if I'm leaking again... ( the oil filter and oil were both replaced last year )
water wise.. not loosing any ... as for pressurising system? can I have in plain english what I need to look at for that?

Think I need to look at getting a manual.. then when I do look at it properly can upload pics and details on what I'm finding or doing..
just looked at the manual on here as in work and was going to print it while the bosses were out .. but think they might notice 585 pages.. lol

Its a bummer when a woman reaches a certain age........
That is a lot of oil.
Youd be wise to pop the seats out and have a look when its running and check underneath, ( obviously be careful of long hair getting caught in the belt ... Helfansaftey )if its burning that amount youd likely be leaving a James Bondesque trail of smoke?
If its not using any coolant leave it alone for now.

I definately am not leaving trails of smoke ... which is why I havn't panicked just yet... (long hair I don't need to worry about .. keep it short)
I will pop the seats and have a look to see if I can see anything obvious .. etc ..

Re: I'm back ...
One cautionary tale re oil level on the 993 - probly won't apply to the other engines....
About 10 years ago I noticed oil level was low so topped up and checked level next day. Still low so topped up more. Still low next day - thought something wrong, rechecked and found level a bit higher - in the end I had to dip it 4 or 5 times before I got a consistant level and by then it was above the max line. So it's worth checking a few times before you pour.

Re: I'm back ...
My red one used oil and smelt of burning.
The rocker cover was leaking onto the exhaust manifold where it burnt off. Only did it while driving so didn't leave much if any oil patch on the drive

Our 993 does a similar thing only itis the head to distributor seal thats leaking and that is straight onto the manifold so burns off and doesn't get an oil patch.

Re: I'm back ...
As long as it's kept topped up it'll be fine but at the rate you seem to be losing oil you're going to need to be checking it hourly......
And it'll get expensive, price of oil.
GSX750f? Not bad for a first bike after the test, just remember not to get overexcited with a big throbber between your legs.
