fuel consumption

I finally have our van working and we just came back from a weekend away doing a craft show to see how it went and we had it full with a roof box as well but the amount of fuel we used was a bit higher that I expected about 5-3/4 litres for about 30 miles is this about right I have come from a 1.6l car that does about 50 miles on that amount fully loaded with a trailer and roof box.

About 24 mpg loaded & with a roof box.
Plus a smaller engine having to work harder, it doesn't sound that bad.
Our van isn't great on fuel, but it does have the aerodynamics of a brick.

tell me about it I think we did a extra few miles weaving down the road in the cross winds, I know a bigger engine is more economical but I was expecting a little better as even when empty it seems to be about the same, I have a owners manual but can't find a mpg guide.

thats better consuption than I currently have I'm using about a quarter tank every 26ish miles which is about half of LP's useage in the same version MPV the only difference I can see from the pic with the Honda is I have one extra seat still fitted although I filled up to the brim and it was £36 @ 118.9 (I remember 76.9p a litre) and the OM says it takes 36 litres.

i can fit all the seats or just some. got one single in the back at the moment.

Right I have checked the plugs to see what the burn is like and its definatly running rich now my first suspect is the lambda sensor as it had a dousing of water and crap when the head gasket failed has anyone had this and any pointers at anything to look at before I work my way through all the sensors and yes I have checked the air filter and its fairly clean so its not that

Dunno if you have sorted your problem or not yet but when i rebuit my head on mine I noticed the thermal sensor wires were hanging on by a thread. I looked to source a new one wasnt that easy a job to find one, Daihatsu dealer said 67 quid! found somethign simular on ebay for 26 quid so i tried to rewire my one. Seem ok so far when i was running without it connected it wouldnt start very well at all when it was hot now it starts really fast. I can only presume that this sensor tells the ECU that the engine is hot/cold and adjusts the mixture accordingly. SO if your running rich maybe its this one ? Located on the head near the thermostat mine had a black plastic connector and a green plug that plugs into it. I have a 1.0ltr 95 model (cb 42)
